Studies Confirm Low Methane Leakage Rates From Natural Gas Development

A short time ago in a reply to another post I stated that the anti fossil fuel folks had waved the white flag in the battle to ban hydraulic fracturing.

I also stated that this was not the end of their war on fossil fuels. Instead they opened a new front - an assault on infrastructure. The thought being if you can't get the oil and natural gas to market then the exploration and development would cease.

The main tool in this attack is once again a fear campaign. A fear campaign centered around scaring the public into believing that vast amounts of methane and other "toxic" substances were leaking from infrastructure associated with the oil and gas industry. And, that the leakage was so significant that it posed a public health problem.

Of course none of this is true. This is just another straw dog set up by the by the anti crowd in the hopes of ginning up enough fear in the public to get pipeline, compressor projects etc. halted or banned. And, as usual the fear campaign is not based in fact at all, and much of the rhetoric used is based upon out dated information. In may cases over a decade old.

Actually quite the opposite is true. While oil and gas development and associated production has increased, emissions are on the decrease;  this based on recent studies and even includes review by the EPA.

The false narrative here is that oil and gas companies will do anything to make or save a buck. Perhaps in the bad old days. Yes, of course there are still your bad players. But, the major companies have found that good environmental policies pay off in the long run.

So when you hear the purveyors of fear sing their false song just remember that it is no more than the "Chicken Little Syndrome". The Sky Is Falling - The Sky Is Falling ! Yea, Right.

Below is a link to an article than can explain the issue far better than I.
