Well Drilling in NY

With All of the environmental advocates trying to stop the permiting process, Has anyone found were the State is in the review and when they will be making a decision. It would be nice to know if they are moving forward or if this is a lost cause.

Does any one have any update date info on what the state is doing?

I believe there is spposed to be some decision on January 25 -- I believe related to keeping the state study on Marcellus and implementing its recommendations, or starting over again.
IOGA NY is planning a rally of NYers in supprt of drilling that morning at the capitol, to counter a gathering of environmentalists lobbying for the study to be scrapped. Consider attening if you can -- call 518-432-9087 for details.

The anti-drilling groups are busing in protesters from Ithaca and Syracuse. We need a show of force
to counter the false claims these environmental thugs are throwing out. There has not been a central
support group that can rally and focus our pro gas drilling groups together. It appears even the
politicians who should be jumping on the gas drilling band wagon are fence sitting and not leading!
Lets try to get them to attend in Albany and show support for natural gas drilling in the Marcellus shale.
Its good for New York state and its good for the people of the southern tier region.

The state will be moving forward in the near future. They need to finalize the Supplemental Generic Environmental Impact Statement by responding to all of the comments (thousands received) and issuing a Findings Statement. Then DEC will be free to issue Marcellus horizontal permits that require high volumes of water in hydrofracturing. My best guess is that the process will be complete by April 1, but I have no information to substantiate that date. It could even be sooner. There are 58 permits waiting to be issued. There is no question that the state will move forward. In the middle of the budget crisis, the Division of Mineral Resources was authorized to hire additional staff to keep up with the workload. I'll be in Albany for the rally next Monday. I"ve heard that some landowner coalitions are organizing bus trips as well. Contact your local coalition to get in on it and show Albany that we support safe drilling now.
