These "appointed" Marcellus Committee Members have vested and direct interests in the Oil & Gas Industry :

CONFLICT OF INTEREST ?

How many Rights or Surface Owners are fully represented and appointed to this committee ?

Conflict of interest, very well could be. As for the ones who own mineral rights, I would like to think they would have a better understanding as to what the land and mineral owners are up against. Being against "Forced Pooling" and or not allowing it to be a part of this is a good start.

The ones who favor "Forced Pooling" and want it in, then yes, it is a hugh conflict of interest !

Ireland says "Forced Pooling" would become a "poison pill" in any regulatory bill it was in.

Facemire stated "Forced Pooling" didn't belong in a regulatory bill.

Just a little reminder as to why we need to keep a close eye on the "Forced Pooling" issue during this "Special Session" even though a few legislators feel it should not be part of the process.

Comment by Senator Kessler,
"I’m convinced to some degree, or suspect, some of the reason there wasn’t a lot of movement or support behind the executive branch and the bill didn’t move as well was there was a lot of moneyed interest in getting that forced pooling in there. As soon as the Senate passed a version that didn’t have that in there, it seemed the brakes started being applied for some reason".

About 100 people, including state legislators, natural gas industry employees, property owners and concerned residents, crowded into the auditorium at West Virginia Northern Community College's B&O Building in Wheeling on Thursday for a public hearing held by members of the Legislature's Joint Select Committee on Marcellus Shale.

Steve Conlon, Bill Hughes and Deborah Kittle do not oppose the natural gas extraction - they just want to keep their water and air clean, while making sure landmen do not "bully" mineral owners. As the night's final speaker, Kittle said "I have an issue with people who try to bully people into lease signing," she said.

Participants Tell of Problems

Ron Hayhurst, a West Virginia Royalty Owners Association member, said he wants to make sure legislators do not add an amendment to allow forced pooling. Forced pooling is when one has gas taken from their land without giving a company permission to do so.
