Patterson well in S. Lawrence Co??

I know how rumors get started.  You heard it from a friend that heard it from his friends neighbor, that heard it from a cousin..so on and so on.  But the word on the street is the Patterson well in Lawrence Co. went thru the marcellus, and the Utica and is now hitting Crude Oil.  Any truth to it?  Thats what I would like to know.  Heard the Patterson family was notified that they better hire  REALLY GOOD financial planner.  Comments Please!

I hear $3,000 is the new rate in Lawrence Co, I am in the Mt Jackson Landowners group & Co-Exprise emailed us stating things are looking very good for everyone (finally)!  Can't wait for the next meeting

I was told that offer won't be around long.  There probably isn't much truth to that though.  I was contacted by Co-Exprise months back and ignored the correspondence.  Im assuming you having signed any land contract yet.

 

Now how do we find out about the Pattersons.  I'm seeing dollar signs.

The Patterson site has two wells on it - a horizontal Utica and a horizontal Marcellus.  When you do a search, you can see the M and U designation in the well names.  From what I have heard, the horizontal component on both wells have been finished, and they now await fracking.  There is no water impoundment visible on the site, so when you see a large amount of tanks being moved in, you can pretty much bet they are getting ready to frack.  I have also heard that there was no show of oil, but I can't say that with 100% certainty.

Lets keep this discussion going b/c I have property within 15 miles of that site.  I'm not leased, and I'm

waiting to see if they strike oil b/f I lease.  I know its risky, but if they strike oil I believe the prices are going

to sore.

Here is something interesting I just heard this AM.  When the drilling co hit the marcellus on the Patterson well they expected it to be fairly shallow, like 125ft-200ft thick.  But to their surprise it was over 600 ft.  GOOD NEWS!  Plus with all the buzz in the area about chesapeake hitting oil in eastern ohio, things have to be looking up for our area.  Drill Baby Drill!!

You might be right, but I suspect that what they are really talking about is the Utica formation. The Marcellus in Beaver County is around 40 ft thick (from a very reliable source)....I'm no geologist, but that much variation in such a short distance is suspect to me. I understand that the Utica is over 400 ft thick our area of Beaver County..... which leads me to this conclusion.

Hello all.  I'm contracted to Shell assisting managing the leasing effort in Lawrence County.  I thought I would chime in on this thread and offer some clarity to a few of the posts.  To my knowledge, Shell has not struck oil at this site, nor do they expect to.  As someone else posted this portion of Lawrence County is believed to be in the wet gas window.  Wet gas contains other gases like Butane and Propanes and has a higher butane rating, but the term "wet" doesn't mean Oil.  Wet Gas needs to be treated and processed.  That is why Shell submitted a release to the press a couple weeks back about the possibility of building a processing center in the area.  

In terms of the wells permitted there is both a horizontal Marcellus and Utica well permitted and both will be developed for testing and, fingers crossed,  production provided these "test" wells are marketable.  

 

In reference to the offer being raised to $3,000.00/acre across the board the reasoning behind this was much more simple than some would lead you to believe.  The reasoning was also more fair than I've seen other companies exhibit in my past dealings with Oil and Gas producers.  As you are well aware Shell is leasing, and drilling, in Lawrence County, but they are also leasing and drilling in Butler County.  Based on initial field efforts it was recognized in order to be competitive in Butler County the offer needed to come up to what the competition was offering there.  Shell also thought due to Lawrence and Butler Counties being contiguous to each other that,  in an effort to be fair to those landowners living in Eastern Lawrence County they should up the offer in all of Lawrence County as well.  Raising the offer had absolutely nothing to do with the progress or outcome of the Patterson Well, nor the Landwoner group cited in this thread, although I did read their latest letter and they would lead members to believe that the offer was raised due to the group banding together, or that they were working with Shell on an even better offer, neither of which is true, to my knowledge and I have asked directly and repeatedly.

 

As I stated earlier, I am contracted to Shell and at this point I don't know the current status of the Patterson well.  What I have been told is that Shell is being very methodical while drilling.  Studying every inch of core that comes out of the ground, being mindful of safety, and taking every measure possible to understand the local geology and make the best well(s) they can.  People of Lawrence and Butler Counties.... Keep those fingers crossed!
