We were getting close to signing the lease but a serious snag took place.

It seems that the drilling company maps showed that the storage area field did not include our property. But we were actually receiving a rediculously small sum of lease money from the storage company.

If we are not within that storage area field then why are we receiving a yearly payment? And I wonder if anyone else in the affected township area has signed a lease and maybe even received their lease payment? And how will they settle that seemingly very large problem?

So now the drilling outfit backed away trying to lease anything within the township area, as I understand it.

Hope they get if figured out pretty soon.
Is that a gas storage facility?...I hope it works out for you
To answer your question Michael.

We are leased by a storage and transportation outfit. it is Dominion. My Dad leased the acreage about 1968 I believe it was. It was leased for less then three dollars per acre at that time. Maybe two dollars, I cant just recall exactly. There are no wells or pipelines on my property. I have lived here since 1949 and the acreage has been in my family since about 1844. The property was left to me by my parents. So I should know pretty much the history of it.

About 5 years ago there was a man taking soil test samples around the area. He told me that gas migrates from place to place. And that he would be back in about a year to take more soil samples at exactly the same locations.

I told him about our lease and he said, "We are going to get you a much better deal." But he did not elaborate.

We heard nothing more until we received a phone call from someone who wanted to set up a meeting with us about gas leasing. But before he could come, another man from a drilling outfit from Crabtree, Pennsylvania came and talked with us. Until he came I knew little or nothing about Marcellus shale deposit. He told many facts about it.

He presented us a contract to lease our property for about $300 per acre. But there was a question about our lease with Dominion.

In his contract there was a line that stated we had signed knowing there were no other leases on the acreage.

Well I do have it leased but I did not know the exact details, But I told him that we would find out exactly how that lease read. And that I would keep in touch with him.

I did as I told him I would do. Well he never came back.

Another year went by and a representitive from East Resources came and wanted to lease for $1500 per acre. This person told us that was no record of any other lease and even so, the storage area did not include our property as per the maps that they had.

It seems to be in limbo now. It seems that someone's "homework" was faulty. Or maybe there is another explanation!

Hello William
I hope they take care of that for you. Our situation is a bit of a mess also.
Now I am wondering if East had some sort of deal with Dominion concerning drilling?
