There is much talk about the plants that are in the planning stages for either Pa, Ohio, or WVa. This article talks about the site of the old J+L  Steel Works in Aliquippa Pa as a possible location being looked at by two Companies. The interesting thing is that one of the companies uses current steam technology while the other one is going to use a completely new technology.

"However, RMG and Aither officials said they have high hopes for their plant, which would be the first of its kind, because it would use patent-pending technology that would cost less to build and operate than a steam-cracking facility and take a shorter time to process ethane.

Abolina said the new technology also consumes 80 percent less energy than steam cracking and produces 60 percent less carbon dioxide output."

The green folks ought to be trumpeting this leap forward, but alas they don't want any carbon based products, period. Strange lot indeed.

Of course building either plant, or both would be beneficial to our areas .

My guess is some where close to the Sonoco product line that runs from Canada to the port of philly. Should also be close to the Ohio river. East Liverpool?

Neville Island

I have a poster of what the J&L site used to look like when it was up and running hanging up in my basement.  Any one that has anything to do with the cracker plants in Beaver County, you do everything possible to bring these plants here.  I dont care what it is, do it.  Tax breaks, free land, a parade, fireworks, do it.   I know what it was like when people had jobs at the steel mills and I know what it is now, its a world of difference.   Please do everything to bring these plants here.  There is one shot at this in a life time and its time to step up and get this done.

tpf,  i agree with you 100%, but dont hold your breath...beaver county has a lousy record when it come to attracting any type of business.  our specialty is pushing them out!

I dont know if you remember when the Saturn plant was suppose to come here probably 25 years ago.  These cracker plants are a once in a lifetime deal, give them anything they want.   Do what it takes.

TFP, I can't believe you brought up the Saturn Plant failure...good memory.

You ALL have it wrong:

The dust will be blown off the old , existing plans for the Canal System to be built utilizing the Mahoning and Beaver rivers in Ohio & PA. Thus resulting in the ONLY logical location..........WAMPUM , PENNSYLVANIA!!!!!!

Besides , everyone knows Lower Chewton has the nicest beach in Western PA! A definite plus , providing plenty of "curb appeal".

Glenn ;-)

don't wanna mouth off in wampum or they'll come out chewton. hahahha

Lots of free land over there. where's (waldo) Bob Casey????

Check this out....   http://www.thenews-messenger.com/article/20120128/NEWS01/201280318     seems the new Kinder Morgan pipeline to run wet gas from Pa to Toledo is being placed on hold. Application on hold as project is "being re-evaluated."  Don't think it is because of the drop in gas prices as wet gas is still very valuable. And looking at the map, it runs right through the heart of the Utica oil/wet zone. So why the delay?

My theory is that they are waiting to see where the two proposed cracker plants are going to be located and what capacity they will have.  No need to pipe it to Toledo if new cracker plants can process it all here.

Not knowing where the line was going to end (looks like Toledo)  Id say why try to pipe it to the refinery at Toledo see http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=41.68046,-83.449984&z=15&t=h... when you getting a plant or plants custom made for the separation at the source?

If I remember right, at Toledo is a tap-in to a larger line that runs into Canada where there are cracker plants and full refining services.
