I live in Union County but have an interest in looking at an active drilling/fracing site.  Before venturing out, can anyone tell me where there is drilling and/or fracing that is currently taking place in the Hughesville or surrounding areas.  I have to go that direction anyway and wanted to tie in a visit to an active site.  Thanks very much.

Dear Rik,
Go north through Hughesville on Rt.220 north, then through the little town of Picture Rocks and then on to the little town of Tivoli. When you get through Tivoli just keep looking on your right and you won't miss the rig !!

I would call EXCO or XTO to check about a visit since they are doing a of of drilling in that area. I would not show up unannounced since a well site is an industrial operation and they take safety quite seriously. You can probably also just stop in a gas station or general store and find out where the local drilling is going on. I looked at a site at Thanksgiving just east of Lairdsville, but it is probably done by now, although I don't know what their fraccing schedule is (no pun intended).
Thanks to both of you for your input. Stopping at a local gas station or convenience store sounds like a great idea in addition to the identified site.

I posted some pics of the site near Tivoli if you care to have a look-see:

Rik, You can see an active site just off of 220 north of Tivoli, on the east side of the road. You can't miss it as it is right next to the highway. It is actually in a flood plain of Muncy creek and the site was underwater in January, luckily just before any drilling had commenced. If you or anyone wants to send me your e-mail and I will send you a picture of the site underwater and as it is today. Seems strange a site would be permitted in a flood plain, and dangerous too, not to mention possibly quite expensive to the well developer but that is evidence of both the lax regulatory climate we have here as well as the developers inexperience with this area.

If you would like an industry led tour of a drill site, contact Chief or Anadarko's Williamsport office and they will be glad to accomadate you when a tour is scheduled.
Hello Rik; I also live in Union County and am curious to read that you wish to see a drill site in Lycoming County. Do you happen to know whether there is leasing interest or drilling activity in Union County?
Dale...thanks for your reply. No, I do not know of any proposed drilling activity in Union County. From the Marcellus Shale maps that I have seen, there is little, if any, gas here. My interest is in trying to find business opportunities in support of drilling and related activities and I just want to be better informed about the industry. Out of curiosity, what is your interest in the Marcellus play?
Hello Rik: I live in the northwest corner of Union County on about 400 acres of which about 100 acres lies in Lycoming County. I must confess, a couple of years ago, I got a call on my phone recorder from a gas company who was interested in leasing. Not knowing anything about gas leasing, I did not bother to return the call. I have since learned that many of the farmers here in the White Deer Valley took that opportunity to lease. I, together with several neighbors in the valley, have about 1500 acres unleased, and we of course are very interested to know if and when the drilling activity will expand to this area. Obviously, we are interested in leasing, thus my reason for contacting you after I saw you were located in Union County. I was thinking, incorrectly as it turns out, that perhaps you were involved with leasing or drilling activity in your area of Union County. Dale
