I live in West Virginia and there were geological surveys done last summer in my area with a shaker truck. The companys  recently started calling landowners in regards to leasing the land in this area. I was wondering if the results of the surveys were a matter of public record and if they are how does a person obtain them?  Brand new to this site and the process of negotiating a lease that is fair and equable.

SS,

Where are you in WV?

It will be intersting to see results of these surveys.

Depends on the seismic survey really - although I'm fairly positive few to none are ever public record.

They're usually proprietary, and very confidential at that.

However, sometimes a seismic company will shoot a survey and look to sell it to drilling companies (called a spec survey) - so, if that was the case and you had a few million $$$ burning a hole in your wallet you could get ahold of it!

Hope that helps some.

Cheers!

"  Brand new to this site and the process of negotiating a lease that is fair and equable."  I suggest you take a lot of time to understand what is fair and equable. For oil companies it is business which means buy as cheap as they can, you have to establish what you want to sell and the price.
