I have found on this "long, strange, trip" we are on, the newspapers are not always the most accurate at gleaning and accurately reporting what is happening.   Of course the reporters are probably not reading/researching every item they can get their hands on like some of us are.

A great example- if any reporter/talking head etc in this area refers to what is happening in Ohio as "Marcellus" shale drilling, they are not paying attention.

...."long, strange, trip" indeed.

Uncharted waters? At least for this part of the country. Or, maybe one should say we have seen similar "mineral rushes" involving coal and shallower natural gas drilling actions in past decades.

The big problem with typical "beat writers" for the print media is that they are probably very constrained by budgetary cutbacks due to recessional (and shrinking circulation) factors and indeed do not have time for investigatory journalism.

Show up for a news event, capture the apparent flavor of the gathering,............ repeat previous actions several times a day, write articles, make deadline,.......... repeat cycle each day.

I agree: Reporters simply may not have the time to really do their job.

Marcellus.........Utica...........next?

Who has researched the next high yielding formation farther below?

I will bet the CHK's of the world already have.

Kudos a-plenty for much of the info brought to forums like this.
