How much should I ask for a 4 acre water impoundment dug on my farm?

Good question John. First off do you want it? Will it be a permanent? What percentage of your property will be used?

Would you entertain the idea of saying ok but it has to meet specs. In Ohio a pond is measured in acre feet. See

http://ohioline.osu.edu/b374/b374_17.html Four acres is a pretty good sized pond for water see http://www.pondparts.com/calc2.php so could you use a pond for recreation? Could it be a asset in the selling of the property for say a camping facility in the future.

If you can get them to build a pond with the state natural resource department planning it and your getting it done for free one of the things I would request is a water connection designed for rural fire fighting use. As I would think they plan on plumbing it this shouldn't be a issue.

I myself would not want a 4 acre mud hole.

Billy Bob:

Have you ever seen a Fresh Water Impoundment used for a pad site?  It's not exactly a recreation - like pond.  It's typically a felt liner with an impermeable rubber / plastic sheet with  pumps on all sids - don't think you could stock it.

Armstrong that is why I suggested using the natural resources department, and this does not appear to be a drill pad at being 4 acres in size. I might be wrong but trying to see if something positive could be done here.

My thought was he has a area that would be ripe for a water supply as he did not mention anything about a well. How about some more info John?

they want to build a 4 acre lake on my farm, 300 feet away from well pad...  they will make it 17 foot they say and will keep 10 feet of water in it...  it will stay a 4 acre lake after they are done with it in 5 years

Will they stock it for you? lol But would it be a benefit to you. Will they put a taper on a side,  white sand beach, gazebo and of course a sliding board in as well?

nope, just using the water for the well pad...
