I received a request from CGGVeritas to conduct a 3-D survey on my property. They are offering $5 per acre. Has anyone else received such a request?

Where are you located in Lycoming County? From what I have heard, that is the going rate. Also, a lot of the leases will have a clause that permits a company to go in and perform 3-D seismic - with compensation for any damages etc..
Matt,
Thanks for the reply. I am in Mifflin township, within visual of two wells put in by Chief. Although I was presented a lease ($2,000-12%) in 2009 by another company, I opted not to accept the terms.
I live in Penn Township,Lycoming county. They just got down with all that here, we were not offered anything for seismic surveying.
Bonnie, did you look at your lease to see if seismic surveying is in it? Local farm in Wolf Twp does not have a lease, these guys were told to stay off the land, they rode their 4 wheelers thru alfalfa fields, soybeans, etc., anyway. Person who witnessed this was looking into the company and going to contact home office about this. They are not supposed to come on your land without landowner permission (or lease in place allowing this) is what I understand.
Hey I just read on another blog for Lycoming County to NOT sign with another company for this testing unless you speak to your signed company first. Apparently many have signed contracts where testing is already covered in our contracts........I know nothing.....but you might want to check into it.
Unless your lease obligates you, why show your poker cards to the other side? One they identify the sweet spots, it will have a detrimental effect on broad based leasing.
If you already have a lease in place, the "other side" is going to do 3D prior to moving ahead and drilling. Not sure why you wouldn't allow them to perform the seismic, after all if you leased the goal is to get them to drill, not just sit and hope to renew. Unless there is something I am missing here....
The gas is everywhere, there aren't "sweet spots". The sesimic survey basically maps out the structure of the shale layers and the fault lines. The shale doesn't lie flat under the ground it has hills and valleys in it and the gas companies need to see this in order to know where to direct their drilling. Even if you do happen to have a fault line under your property, they can drill right up to it. Personally I would rather have my leasing company know all this BEFORE they drill, rather than make a mistake becuase you didn't want to sign up for the seismic test.
Veritas was by today and offered $5/acre for the survey. I wanted folks to know that they offered $25/acre in the Haynesville, TX shale play.

I gave them permission back in June and have yet to see any compensation. Maybe you can deny permission until they send me a check?

The end of 2010 we signed with CGG Veritas for seismic testing... agreed to the $5.00 per acre, guy was in a hurry to get signatures blah, blah.. never heard from them again.. never received any money.

About a week ago some one called and said they were going to be doing surveying work in our area (neighbor also received the same call).. guy spoke so fast and was hung up before anyone could ask a question.

This morning I receive a call at work from my mom saying some guy called, sounded half drunk and stated they were going to be on my property measuring and checking buildings, etc.  She asked what for and he said they were getting ready to drill.  She asked who it was and he slurred something.  She told him I didn't want him on my property and we had no contract.. he told her I did, I signed in April 2010.  The contract I signed was in November 12, 2010!!  (My gas land lease was with Range Resources...expired last July).

Mom proceeded to tell him I didn't want him on my property, I hadn't received any money and the cops would be called if they showed up.  He said ok, we won't come out today or tomorrow!!

My questiona are... with the CGG Veritas Agreement there was an open time frame.. is it legally binding if no money has been exchanged??  How long do they have to fulfill their end... years???  Is there any way to cancel it??

Thanks
