QUESTIONS:: Seitel is doing seismographic testing in these 3 counties. Major Question #1 Do they propose to test every bit of acreage in all 3 counties. Major Question #2 What O&G company are they working for. Major question #3 Cooperstown Project Phase 1, implies that there is at least 1 additional phase and possibly more. M

I hit wrong key and thread post was not finished. Major Question #4:: What specifically is the Cooperstown project? Major Question #5: How many phases are there to the project and what does each phase consist of? (I wish I were not such a poor typist!)

I have not asked a company rep. My information is secondhand. I believe that people who have signed agreements for testing do not know the answer, but perhaps I am wrong about this. Obviously someone with some kind of big dollars has hired Seitel to do this. Hope this clarifies my questions.

I went to a meeting a the 4H fair grounds in franklion a number of weeks ago. I found out there are 3 companies doing seismic testing.  One is working on behalf of halcon across 4 counties.  two in ohio and mercer and venango.  They are mostly in the french creek area.  They other company is working on behalf of range resources.  Not sure where they are working but I know they want to go across my aunt's land in galloway.  I'm not sure who the 3rd company is working for or if they are just doing it and then will see the report.  I did not some to one of the seismic guys.  He said to test 1 sq. mile costs $200,000.  This is not a typo.

Thanks Lorrene. I hope we all have a good outcome eventually. It is hard for me to have a lot of faith in Halcon, but I am glad that they are apparently going to drill at least 4 wells in Venango County. I guess patience is what we all need. Please keep posting any relevant information you may acquire. 

Doing seismic gets very complicated, especially in areas like Venango where there are many active E & Ps with intermixed parcels. Hard to do seismic just for one company when every half mile, or less, the ownership of the leases changes. It may be that a seismic company has an exclusive agreement with a single E & P but more likely they have agreements with several operators so that they can survey a large area and then supply the data to the companies they are contracted with. I know that DAS has contracts with both Shell and Hilcorp in Lawrence Co.

It is also possible that they are doing the survey without an agreement with any operator but will sell the data to companies with leaseholds in the area they studied. These companies monitor leasing activity and move into an area that is hot so they can sell data collected.

And it is very common that the people on the ground doing the work don't even know what, if any, companies they are contracted to. These are closely guarded secrets.
