Excellent article. My land is in Pa. so the reporting requirement is every six Ohio months. That's somewhat better than Ohio's every twelve months.  My further question is whether the  6 month period starts from the time the well is producing or does a company just report its individual well results on say July 1 and January 1 with the stipulation that no individual well needs to report results unless AT LEAST 6 months has elapsed since the beginning of production for any particular well. Obviously, I am asking this question about reporting requirements in the state of Pennsylvania.   Thanks in advance for any help that anyone can provide.

I have two pieces of information that can't be disputed. Two Geologists described the Appalachian Basin and this area as being the 2nd largest oil find in the world based on the conditions that exist compared to the conditions needed to produce oil.

The 2nd piece of information comes from drillers who said, "You don't know what is below your feed do you?".

I'm taking these two data points to the bank, and will patiently wait for the production to start.

The Ohio Governor already has plans for using the money, you don’t think that he might have the inside information on future production. Some have said he has over estimated the value of the Utica Shale, but I believe he knows what it’s really worth from those who are drilling like CHK.

Rest easy and hold on to your mineral rights.

I read this earlier and didn't overly care for it. The author goes on and on about lack of info than doesn't have their figures right on the few wells they have info on because I guess the wet gas wasn't reported to ODNR.
This got me wondering if the whole reason for this was just to highlight the lack of info the oil co.'s are required to give in Ohio.
I wonder sometimes in this play if its better to have a well come along later than sooner. I know everyone wants royalties now but in a few years the people who get in a later well (unit) may benefit more from the knowledge they are gaining from these first wells.
It's all so new.

I agree Kathleen.  Our area has it's first well and has good results (oil) but the driller already admits it'll change it's technique next time.  Seems like the geology doesn't lie, but getting the stuff out of the ground can be tricky.

I agree Kathleen,  Prices always go up, technoloy will improve production rate and lower costs for separation.  It is hard to wait but we all know the saying.

Too early to speculate. Utica is nearly equal to Eagle Ford play......

I THINK THIS AUTHOR COULD GET A JOB WITH GASLAND MABY ALLREADY WORKS WITH THEM.

Reuters hates the O&G industry, specifically CHK.  Any chance they get to start a fight they take it.  I try to ignore them as much as is reasonably possible.

All,

Please take in all of the information you can and make your own decision and have good legal advice along the way. You will soon know if it is a bust. The white trucks will disappear and the permits will cease. In the mean time enjoy it!

This article is pure spin.  Nothing stated incorrect except the secrecy and other suggestions.  Picking and choosing and rearranging the order of facts to spin toward the negative.  This writers glass is way past half empty.  The same article could be written to sound extremly positive.  Yes the boom will someday go bust, probably after a few generations go to school and retire all within the boom.  Talk of bust at this point is like saying we are all dying as both are facts, both hopefully way in the future.

Here in eastern Oh,there isn't enough pipelines to carry the product. Our lease states that after we are drilled they only have 90days to put us into production. We signed with a group that had over 7000 acers  in it.I belive that as soon as the pipelines are finished we will see a lot more well and the production numbers will go up.
