Utica Shale Might Stretch Farther West

Another good article from the CantonRep.com. on how far west the Utica may stretch. 

But when will the landmen come knocking?  What oil company is out there drilling?

Geologists used information from wells drilled this past year, as well as core samplings and cuttings from test wells. The samples measure the total organic carbon in the rock. Measurements indicate how much oil and natural gas might be found.

Companies have volunteered the information to ODNR, spokesman Matt Eiselstein said. This year, the state has more information from samples collected in western counties.

Those samples have “more or less brought that into clearer focus,” Eiselstein said of the western counties.

The Utica shale is a source rock for oil and natural gas, said Pete MacKenzie, a geologist and vice president of operations for the Ohio Oil & Gas Association. Oil and gas moves from the shale and collects in other rock formations. During the past 10 years, however, companies have started drilling shale to extract hydrocarbons.

Seems they have been working on that Mill Creek forever. Are they done with this well yet?

is there any interest in the utica formation or leasing in warren county penna. columbus pa, i do know we are being hounded by companys that no one has ever heard of.one is rapid restate solutions out of pittsburge pa. with outrageses fees. any coments would help

An article from the Dayton Daily News about oil found in West Central Ohio.

The article seems to downplay the discovery of oil in Clark Co. By West Bay Exploration except, this well is a conventional well.  This well was not fracked.  This well is located on 10 acres.  And yes today it is only producing 5 barrels of oil per day.  This well is located where the TOC, S1, and S2 are listed as "POOR", according to ODNR maps. 

What could the daily production be if this well was fracked and a 5000 foot horizontial well was drilled?  I have read that Fracking increases production by a multiple of 8.  That would increase production on the verticle to 40 barrels/day.  Add the horizontial which would be 1100 feet X 5000 feet and that's 126 acres. That would equal 504 barrels/day.

What is the potential for landowners who are located where the ODNR Maps indicate that the TOC, S1 and S2 are very good to excellent.
