Utica Production Potential Map

Interesting map I found on the Canton paper site. Sure seem to put eastern Belmont county in a diffrent light.

Personally, I couldn't have drawn the map any better.

Marion????? How can there be enough reservoir pressure to horizontally drill and efficiently develope the Utica in Marion, Ohio???  This map cant be accurate................

Consol had billboards on 23 just north of Marion for leasing within the last 6 months.

What criteria is the map based on ?
Leases that exist ?
Planned drill units to date ?
What ?
How about a link to the article ?

I have no idea what the map is based on. But i can assure you is has nothing to do with drilling units, or lease that exist. The map was not part of an article that i could find.here's the original link.

Went to the Canton Repository page and found they have quite a few articles.

Regarding the map, I'm thinking it may have been generated a bit earlier on in the development and probably based on test bores / core samples and wells that were already existing.  Problem with using only that kind of data is that some areas are even now seriously lacking in existing test bores / core samples and deep wells.

Based on that, I'm taking that map with a good number of 'grains of salt' myself.

But, thanks again anyway.

I take all the maps with a grain of salt.. This is the first time I've seen this one.

A few years back I ran across a Utica map from the 1930's.  It was not very different from current maps.  Sometimes I wonder if all the new siesmic technology in addition to isolating depth is mainly used to find large naturally occuring fractures to help drain far outside unit boundries.
