Gulfport energy has leased all the land around here on both sides of I-70. I've heard that they can go under state land such as state route 40 that runs right beside I-70 but I didn't know whether anyone knew if they could make a deal with the federal government to go under I-70?

I'm sure a deal will be worked out. They have a department that handles those requests along with pipelines that may be bored under Federal highways.
interesting question.......i'm sure i have seen shallow wells right next to interstates......we have some leased land that borders 77 in eastern stark co........chk has leases on both sides.
is the land under the interstates owned by the fedgov, or do they just have a ROW?

Chapter 159: PURCHASE AND JURISDICTION OF LAND BY UNITED STATES
My experience has been that land taken for federally sponsored roads is purchased outright.
I believe the government owns it. I have a well going in right outside my property heading northwest away from the interstate. If they were to eventually drill one going southeast from the same pad that would catch me & the interstate too after going thru my property about 3000 feet. I guess they drill either northwest or southeast now for some reason. I don't know how likely another well from the same pad is. I used to hear of them drilling several wells in a star shaped pattern from the center. That idea seems to have changed now with the northwest southeast thing. I used to think that everyone inside the star would be included in the drilling unit. With wells going northwest or southeast only a thin strip of land would likely be included. Seems like a persons odds of being included are pretty slim with this scenario. If that's true seems like they spent gobs of money on bonus payments for absolutely nothing?

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
