Can you help tell me what I have going on here?

I am very, very new to the oil and gas industry. I have a drill pad that has been shut down for 2 years but Chevron continues to put equipment on the site. I need to figure out the lease info. Does anyone know how to find that in WV? I am thinking that some profit is going to be made here. Do I have an average looking pad? What are some of the things pictured here? I have a lot to learn....

It looks like there is a lot going on there.

Looks all new and more than what we've got going on at our wells that are running.

You can go to the WVDEP website to see what the staus is.

If you've got the API number it will be easier to check.

Where in WV?

Thank you! I have the permit number. I would like to figure out what some of this equipment is just for my personal knowledge. Everything is new. Well was drilled in 2010, shut down in 2011 due to the side of the hill falling apart. Wondering what they are doing. This is in Marshall County.

The first photo is the Christmas Tree aka well head.  The other photos show a couple different separators.  There are some great tours of a well pads online.  Google "tour of a well pad", "tour of a completed well pad",  "what is all the stuff on a well pad" ... put in a specific company name if you want they all have videos out there and then just start picking some to look at.   Pay attention to the shape more then the color of something as those vary by company.  This video is short and a good place to start.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nopxPl314IA  You will see the well head (or Christmas Tree) and the big box in your photo which is a separator.  If you have dry gas, wet gas, oil you are going to see more things then on a pad that is just dry gas ... which is what you see in the video I believe.  Also you see several well heads in the video ... more than one well/permit.  Do you know how many permits for the well in your picture? The more wells the more stuff.  I did not see any in the picture but is there a tank battery ... large round tall tanks in our area they are white  but this varies by company and there are usually six to eight of them also varies based on the number of wells drilled and the amount of condensate (NGL's) and oil.  These collect NGL's and oil which is then trucked from the site.  You could have all this on a pad and it could be shut in for various reasons and not producing.  You mentioned that the pad/berm was collapsing so that could be a real problem for any buried pipes.

Thank you so much! I'm not sure about permits. I know there have been 16 permits for the life of the well but those are only for plat approval, inspection, reclamation, etc. I believe there is only 1 well permit now. Only 1 API number. Everything seems to be fixed.  I think this will be in production soon. I just know they aren't harvesting much in the area right now.

The first photo shows a wellhead and production tree, it looks like the well is hooked up for flow

The second photo shows a surface separator on left and what appears to me to be a compressor on the right. The compressor lowers the surface pressure to promote more flow.

 

The third photo shows a heated vessel (treater) that separates water from oil and maybe a knockout drum to prevent fluid slugs from entering the compressor (bad thing).

 

I see other bits of instrumentation and flow control valves also.

 

I would not be surprised if you have a producing well pad there, although I did not see a meter run in any of the photos.

I would hazard a guess as thats going to be a major producer.

Is there a pipeline in the area or are they in the process of building one to it?

There are pipes all across my property. They also built a processing plant across the road from me. They are trying to put in a 10" condensate line currently. Gas from all over the state is cutting across my land.
