Questions about the actual gas well

I have seen diagrams of wells with many horizontal wells running parallel to one another. It looks like they all come off the same vertical well. My question is are all the horizontal wells active at the same time or do they drill one horizontal at a time?

Wells can be constructed with multiple laterals from a single vertical well (mother bore). They can be produced simultaneously or individually if the proper isolation devices are employed.

I've seen stacked multi laterals used in stacked pay sequences.

Drilling and completing these wells are one thing, accurately measuring the flow contribution is quite another challenge.

Thank you for your reply. Is there an industry standard of how many horizontal wells are drilled off the mother bore. If I understand correctly all horizontal wells can be producing oil and gas simultaneously through the mother bore.

George, in most cases what I've seen is that although the parallel laterals all come back to the same pad, they each are connected to a separate vertical bore. These will be laid out in a tight grid, spaced as little as 25' apart at the pad entry point. I guess it is worth it to keep them separate to have individual control over the flow.
