Do you have a well number?  Each company seems to have a standard system for numbering of wells.  Chesapeake for example uses even and odd numbers with the H for horizontal at the end of the well number to indicate direction 1H, 3H, 5H, 7H, 9H, 11H in one direction and 2H, 4H, 6H, 8H, 10H, 12H.  I have not seen any higher numbers used by them.  Our well is 10H and goes Southeast as do other even numbered wells.  Odd numbered wells go Northwest.  We just sort of figured this out when they first started drilling because in Ohio on ODNR you can see the direction of the wells on well finder.  I am not too familiar with the other companies but maybe someone else can give you an idea about them

Yes..I can look at endof road. After I t get the number what do I do with it?

Post it on here.  Can you include the driller?  In what state are you located?  I may be able to help in Ohio or if that driller also has wells in Ohio.  Also in Ohio you can look up the unit acre drawing on ODNR and we can see which direction the lateral goes.  I am not familiar with finding things on PADEP or WVDEP but someone on here will know how to look up.  And someone on here may know based on there own well number.

That's exactly what I was wanting..to look the well lateral up.do you know the link or can u post it....thanks

I only know in Ohio that you can go to www.oilandgas.ohiodnr.gov  Then search the oil and gas well database ... click on that to the right.  If you have the API well number ... they are unique ... you can find the well card.  At the bottom of well card ... scroll down ... there are pdf's etc attached and that will be the unit acre drawing.  Look on the drawing for and you will see where well head is located and you can tell if it goes NW or SE.  There are a few wells that go N or S directly but that is unusual.  If you can't find it give me the well number and I will find and post the link.

A  lot of the wells permitted  do not show the path of the wells

In Ohio ALL wells that are permitted the exact path of the well is surveyed by a company hired by the oil and gas company.  The exact path of the horizontal is documented and must be submitted to ODNR with the permit application before the permit is even issued.  That survey drawing is attached to the well card for each well.  And if you can read a map you can see the direction the horizontal will go.  Any deviation from original plan is then logged in well log and also submitted to ODNR and that info is with well card.  Not sure what state you are in but in Ohio if the workers take a break to urinate it is documented.  OK that was sarcasm but go on ONDR and see what all is documented there.

well api number 34067212960000  does not show which way the  lateral well will run.  On some of the other wells permitted it shows the lateral runs  an just permitted this month. This well is in Harrison County Ohio  German twp.

Wonder why the other 4  wells in this group are the same .Wonder why?

Do you have a well name, a driller, something more that I can use to look up this well?  This API well number does not appear on Utica permit list.  Every well that I saw in German Twp, Harrison County was a Chesapeake well so go back to original post 1H, 3H, oddH go NW and 2H, 4H even H go SE.  This is for Chesapeake wells.

Also every well has a latitude and longitude for start and end.  Using google maps, get directions type in that start latitude and longitude and get direction to the end latitude and longitude and even though it will give driving type directions you can see if the lateral goes NW or SE!

It is really difficult to help when you give so little information but given the correct info I can tell you the direction of every lateral for every well permitted in Ohio.

OK williet57 I see what you mean if you look at well card This is what you see.  HALL 29-10-4  but look over to the right at Well No. and it is 10.  Since this is a Chesapeake well I know it is SE in Direction.  That is how Chesapeake numbers it's wells.

Ok...I have the info you need if you can look up and send me the link here we go......the sign says 0rion the number 14 below that word ....then below that it says Polaris.,,,,,,,state of ohio

I need more information such as API well number or can you tell me what township, county, and the road name the well entrance is located on?  I can find it that way on ODNR.  There should be some type of white board .... or some type of board with the permits posted on it.  The well has been assigned a name and permit number.  There is usually a NO TRESPASSING sign on the board, water impoundment permits, emergency phone numbers.  Not sure what Orion 14 or Polaris are ... rig name and number ???.

"An API well number can have up to 14 digits divided by dashes as follows:

Example: 42-501-20130-03-00[4]

The "42" means that this well is located in "State Code" 42 which is Texas. The "501" means that this well is located in "County Code" 501 which is Yoakum County. The "20130" is a "Unique Well Identifier" within the county. The "03" is the "Directional Sidetrack Code" for wells that have been sidetracked. The "00" is the "Event Sequence Code" to indicate how many operations have taken place."

This is an example of a well near us

County, Township, API Well #, Status, Driller, Well Name and Permit#  I can look at that since it is a Chesapeake Well and know that this lateral goes NW from the 1H at the end.  I need more info to find the exact well you are talking about then we can find out the direction of the lateral.
