One more question. Does anyone know what Halcon was doing when they applied for two permits in March, 2014? These are vertical wells on Rainbow (1V) & Allam (2V). No spud date as per DEP.

David: Best guess is Halcon is building value in the county. Rumors were Halcon had an offer on all of Venango county acreage but the offer was turned down. However the Allam well has be on flare test for about 4 weeks.

I am pretty sure that Halcon abandoned Rainbow property and surrendered their lease months ago.

Samuel: Why would Halcon  abandoned the Rainbow property? The Allam well is the best well that Halcon  drilled in the northern Utica, The Rainbow  pad is not more then 1 mile from the Allam well pad. Please do not post anything on the Venango county site that you have no info. on. Plus Halcon just got a new permit for the Rainbow pad only for  a vertical well.

Why would Halcon  abandoned the Rainbow property? 

1.)  The original unit filed with the DEP had a south east lateral of ~3,750 ft.  Floyd Wilson made it clear some months later there would be no more wells drilled with less than 7,500 ft laterals.

2.)  The original unit as filed with the DEP is effectively blocked by Commonwealth of PA property both to the NW of the unit and to the SE of the unit (the reason for the short lateral).  I have come to believe these properties are not leasable or they would have already been leased to allow longer laterals.

3.)  Halcon leaseholds in the original Rainbow unit are being surrendered as they expire with the exception of the Sportsman's club property which was top leased to add acreage.  Some, but not all of the original leases, were assigned by Sylvan.

4.)  Even if 1, 2 and 3 weren't enough, there is no sales pipeline for miles.  I would think the Allam well would have to be an incredibly exceptional producer for Halcon to justify spending additional millions laying pipeline, but Halcon has made a fool of me before...

While Samuel's use of the word abandoned may be a little extreme, there is little doubt that the Rainbow pad AS IT EXISTS TODAY will never be used for horizontal development.

As to the recent activity there, only HK knows what the real purpose of a vertical well is.

Your supposition that Samuel's information is faulty or that is he is misinformed couldn't be further from the truth.  You, in fact, are the one who seems to be a little in the dark on this subject.

JR,

The commonwealth allows for laterals, underground. Well Pads are a different thing but the subsurface can and is being developed in the state. So, I dont think that is it. Subsurface mineral rights, on state land, could also be owned by private parties. I know this as I own some.

Not state property controlled by the Polk institute.  They won't even allow gathering lines for shallow wells to cross.

JR.  I agree with most of what you say. My point was Rainbow pad has value to Halcon with their non-core areas up for sale. Are Sylvan leases  being surrendered  because landowners are not renewing with out addendums? Why is the Allam well on a 30 day flare test is this to attract possible buyers? Seneca would be a good fit for Halcon acreage in that area with the results of the test well drilled on state game land 39 and the Henderson station and storage less than 10 miles from the site Once in Henderson A company would have access to Tenn. Gas Pipeline and Texas Eastern, good take away capacity Just need a company with that isn't up against the wall for cash. To finish I'm far from being in the dark.

I can't answer this for you.  All I can tell you is that some of the old Sylvan leases are expiring and Halcon isn't re-upping at any price.

Your guess is as good as mine.  I would think that would certainly be one of the viable alternatives.

Who knows on the Seneca scenario?  I hope you're right. Venango's future as a producer is hanging in the balance at the moment.

I apologize for the snide remark, but I thought you deserved it for your derisive remark about Sam's information.  I can assure you, he is very well informed.  Let's put it behind us. There's no doubt we have the same  hopes for Venango county.

Hi Mark.  I haven't heard anything about the SCC well.  I've mostly been focusing on the recent activity at the Allam and Rainbow pads.  Some new signage has gone up at the access road to Rainbow pad that indicates some activity is going on there as well as the flaring at Allam.
