IN MECCA OHIO NORTH TRUMBULL BP DRILLED WELL. PLAYED WITH IT FOR 6 MONTHS, NOW IT IS GONE THEY PULLED THE PIPE AND PLUGED IT. GOT ME WHY THEY DID THAT. I MEAN THERE IS NOTHING THERE BUT GRAVEL. KINDA SCARY HOW THEY DRILLED WELL AND NOW IT IS GONE. THEY EVEN RUN A PIPELINE FOR IT LIKE 6 MILES. I AM WONDERING IF BP DID MORE PLUGGING OF WELLS IN TRUMBULL? I THINK THEY ARE LOOKING FOR OIL AND ALL WE HAVE IS GAS AND NATURAL GAS IS TO CHEAP. ANY ONE GOT SOME NEWS IT WOULD BE NICE TO KNOW SOMETHING.

Ray, you could find most of the answers to your questions on this site as Bp has been discussed many times. The Mecca well you mentioned is the Morrison and it is plugged. Other plugged Bp wells include Jewitt, Dunbar, Miller and Roscoe. Three producing wells were recently sold: Buckeye and Zerovitch to Halcon and Lennington to Enervest. These are all in Trumbull county.

DOES ANY ONE KNOW WHY THEY PLUGED THEM? I THINK THEY WERE DRILLED STRAIGHT DOWN ANS WERE TEST WELLS, DOES ANY ONE KNOW WHAT THEY MADE??? I THINK BP JUST PURCHASED ALL THE PROPERTY TO SELL TO OTHER COMPANIES, AND MAYBE SELL OFF THE BAD ONES. THEY STILL HAVE THE 6" PIPE LINE LAID. SO I AM THINKING GAS IS CHEAP, THEY WILL SET BACK AND WAIT FOR NATURAL GAS TO PICK UP IF IT DOES, FROM WHAT I SEE NATURAL GAS IS GETTING CHEAPER BY THE YEAR. WELL AS FOR OHIOANS GETTING RICH I THINK THAT IS GONE FOR SOME TIME NOW. THE OIL BARRENS WERE LOOKING FOR LIQUID AND GOT GAS. MORE WAYS THAN ONE.

BP doesn't sit back and wait for prices to rise.  That's not how they operate.  They also don't live in an alternate reality where gas prices in the Appalachian Basin will magically rise to a level that makes lousy wells profitable.  These guys are far too big to play that game.

IMHO there are myriad reasons that any business chooses a path.

Mr. Dexter always likes to say that the reason is attributable to 'lousy wells'.

To me, especially in this seemingly chaotic business climate, that is a narrow minded perspective.

They have sold wells and maybe even more of their position as all details of their dealings remain undisclosed.

At least a couple of other posts / replies I've read here on GMS have indicated the buyers were partners in the wells from the beginning.

I believe the resource will be recovered at the pace the developers choose and I'm voting for doubletime - like now - like yesterday myself.

All as always only IMHO.

Joseph, I'm thinking Halcon and Enervest are definately not done with the area, and maybe exploring different frac techniques. Perhaps the "lousy wells" pads will be used for some more exploratory work? IMO

I think we're in the same woods but slightly different campsites MJ.

I think they know how to extract the production and are waiting for infrastructure and perhaps the market to somehow stabilize from it's current apparent chaos.

I ask myself how many different ways can there be to deal with the tight oil / oil window rock characteristics ? Personally, I think not many. I also think that once they've found a way (and I think they have) why even look for another ? Just drill and sell the production and make your money.

In the meantime as you wait for infrastructure and the market to stabilize might as well just go ahead and beat the market up / soften it as best you're able to attempt to minimize future expense.

I AM HOPING SOME ONE WILL COME AND DRILL IN OHIO MYSELF. BUT I DO SEE PROBLEMS WITH THE LITTLE TOWNS AROUND ME, THEY WILL NOT LET DRILLERS ON THE ROADS. SO YOUR LAW MAKERS WILL KEEP OHIO DEAD, BETTER VOTE FOR SOME ONE THAT WANTS WELLS DRILLED IN YOUR BACK YARD OR THEY WILL NEVER COME AND DRILL. HALCON LEFT BECAUSE OF THE ROADS. HECK I WANT SOME MONEY ALSO, BUT WISH IN ONE HAND AND HOPE IN THE OTHER, SEE WHAT ONE GETS FILLED FASTER. THE ANTI FRACKERS ANTI ROAD USE, MAKES FOR BAD RELATIONS WITH DRILLERS. THEY WILL JUST GO SOME WHERE ELSE. I WISH I KNEW WHAT THEY HIT ON THOSE WELLS THEY PLUGED? IF THEY WERE ANY GOOD I WOULD DRILL A WELL MYSELF. I HAVE DRILLED THE CLINTON, BUT I DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS IN THE UTICA, THEY ARE KEEPING IT SECRET, ( WHY )??????????????

Ray, Production reports are available free to the public at ODNR's website. These numbers will show the amounts of oil and gas produced per quarter. These numbers are however what was reported by the E/P to ODNR. Are they entirely accurate? Was production choked back (test purposes)? I do find it odd that the Morrison was plugged with lines in place and with similar production to the Lennington and the Buckeye wells.

I found that a little odd also but I think in theory also explainable.

Some have written here that the cost to reopen a well (to these guys) is no big deal. And maybe market circumstances / lack of infrastructure makes it sensible.

Yeah about choking the wells back. I think they were choked back. Showing low production helps soften the market the way I see it and if market softening is an objective (and I think it is and have thought so for quite awhile) to me it becomes very plausible.

I believe the production being reported is completely accurate but I also think the production is controlled to the end of the above theoretically discussed purposes.

My best guess / HO only.
