Drilling Using NO WATER !!!

Why are we fighting the wrong battle? Instead of Fighting to Allow Hydrofracing using WATER, we could be pooling our resources to REQUIRE Hydrofracing to USE "Liquified Petroleum" ..

http://ww.gasfrac.com, a Toronto based firm, developed a technology 4 years ago to use essentially "Propane"  as the FRACING fluid..

1. NO Water exposure

2. NO Pollution

3. doubles production on all wells

4. NO cleanup after

5. Half the ware and tear on the roads

6. over 300 Wells currently in production out in the midwest

7. you undercut any arguement from environmental groups

 

Sadly, almost no one is talking about this

Bradford field is around Bradford, McKean County, PA & Allegany field is around Bolivar, Allegany County, NY, both shallow (<2500') oil & gas fields, upper Devonian, do not know of any oil wells in Bradford County, PA

Reading the article, It appears to be a minor accident (thank god)  but like with every technology , accidents happen.. but on the bright side.. no chance of enviromental contamination.. which in our present NYS enviroment means a great deal ;-)

was the water contaninated? was there any risk of such?  you , being in the industry, know better than anyone, the ongoing danger and risks taken everyday by every driller and crew, no matter what technolgy is used. Last year , in Texas alone, there were over 4,000 personnel drilling accidents as well as several deaths..

so highlighting one accident with one technology is not exactly evenhanded..

and as of now, no one knows why it happened, could have simply been equipment failure or maybe you are right and it is a flaw in the process, but either way.. exagerating something is best left to Politicians...

You're putting words in my mouth, Jean.  I didn't highlight this accident or say a word about how or why it happened.   How could I with no information whatsoever about the incident?  Accidents do happen as with any industrial activity, especially with one employing technology that is in its infancy.  

 

My point was that possibly blowing thousands of gallons of liquefied gelled propane  goo with who knows what kinds of "proprietary" chemicals all over the place seems to me like it could certainly be considered "environmental contamination".

and what would happen if any natural Gas well blew? or the Flaring that takes place for weeks, and spreads god knows how many unburned chemicals into the Air? (please don't say they all burn off, they don't , several studies by teh University of Pittsbrug have disproved that) they eventually come to earth and mix with the Water Supply.. all of this is relative.. The industry does not have a spotless record and we both know that, and secondly, Propane is a partial natural results of Fraking anyway.. so what are we left with? a Modified Propane molecule that allows for Gelling...

Correct? This all started as a possible alternative to using
Millions of Gallons of Fresh Water, possible contamination, and to alleviate resisitance in NYC population..

I don't know this technology to be the best, I do know that it is being used more more and with Success out west.. I have telephone converstations with companies using the tech to confirm that..

My thought on this process is simply to keep an open mind and to possibly open other minds that there is always more than one way to skin a cat!!

Again, you are stating assumption as fact regarding the gelling of their propane.  You and I have no idea what all goes into it, as it is proprietary.   It says right on their website that there are chemicals involved. Until we know what those chemicals are, how can we compare the two?

I agree to your point, with one caveat, that being that I spoke with a rep and he was fairly adamant that it is more a reconfigured Propane Molecule, than a bunch of known Toxic Chemicals, which we both know does go into Water Hydro..

But I must conceed, until they, or someone clarifies or proves it.. we have only their word for it.;-)

Actually, there has been a LOT of talk about this company and the technique.  It first has to prove itself, though.

 

By the way, the stock fell 20% or some such thing after an explosion on one of their test wells yesterday.

 

It has to be rock solid before all the O&Gs will jump. It has to produce the equivalent from a well, it has to be cost effective, it has to be safe and reliable. That may all happen, but it's a new company and these things take time. 

 

In the meantime, most of the O&Gs are recycling their frac water to the next well, piping it along instead of trucking it anytime possible, and really looking for solutions to the water issue in many ways.

 

VERY INTERESTING FACT just for your information that was given out during a meeting last week I attended...The amount of water used to frac a 6 well pad is the same amount that FLOWS DOWN INTO THE CHESAPEAKE BAY EVERY 7 SECONDS.............................(gone into the sea so fast you never missed it)

 

We don't have water shortages in the northeast. We get floods. My feeling is this: if there really is such as thing as global warming and the polar ice caps are going to melt and overrun the land, we best start using up all that flood water and fast!  Only partly joking here.

When I started this conversaion, my intent was to bring to the forefront some other options besides WATER, which is polarizing NYS and may spread...

As  safe as people say it is or can even proveit is, you need to keep in  mind, MOST people are DUMB, but not SO DUMB as to not understand even the most basic threat to their possible survival ;-)

WATER and no access to it or contaminated WATER will set off WW3 faster than an INDI race car diver can get a round the track..

Reality and fear are  walking hand in hand here, so my thoughts are to see "ARE THERE any alternatives? "

AS someone earlier pointed out, if TAPIOKA works , I'm all for it..;-)

as for Global warming, simply look are the army Winter maps from 1945 and the ones from now.. 2007
