Do they have to get you to sign anything to extend it?  I am guessing they don't.  If they don't, odds are you will be receiving a check in the mail, or notice, or whatever, without any word from them prior to that (if they want to extend).  The o&g companies like to wait til the last minute on a lot of stuff, especially if it involves them shelling out money.

They may let your lease expire and then try to get you to sign a new lease for less money. However, they aren't doing very well with the low o/g prices.

Forecasts

All the companies are hurting right now.  Ca$h strapped for sure.  Your lease is not on Rex's worry list and you aren't alone in your situation. A new law in PA requires that companies send landowners lease surrender documents when a lease is set to expire.  Nonetheless it would be smart on your part to request one, and set a timeframe for them to respond.  When it comes run to the courthouse and have it recorded.

Thank's Janice will do..

Our old Shell lease expired in Feb. and we never heard anything from Rex about the extension option or a new lease even after our attorney called them several times. Our acreage is in northern Butler county. A few weeks ago we talked to someone from Rex headquarters and were told they are not signing new leases at this point due to the downturn in the O/G market. Unfortunately we are landlocked by other old Shell leases that don't expire for two more years so it would not financially benefit Rex to sign us to a new lease or extend the old lease. I can't fault them for that. From what I can tell the only new leases that Rex is signing in Butler County are ones that are involved in creating a production unit. The other thing I have heard but can not confirm is that Rex did not want the entire leasehold that Shell sold them so as these old Shell leases come up for renewal over the next few years will dictate what Rex's future plans are with that acreage. Regardless, my opinion has always been that the 18% no deduction leases will not be extended and allowed to expire regardless of Rex's future plans.

Called Talisman regarding our lease, and as of right now, they are not renewing either.  So I guess from a few other comments I've read I will get a lease surrender.  It was explained to me, that way if companies look to lease again it will show the land is not leased to another company?

I believe so. You may have to talk to them and request it though.

Had a recent phone conversation with the owner relations of Rex Energy. He informed me that their company will let our gas lease expire on Oct. 4, 20015 for our property in Lawrence County very close to the Ohio border. This decision was due to the poor market conditions so they will not be expanding their drilling operations. They recently drilled a new well at their Patterson property in Lawrence County to tap into the Utica formation. The results will determined if they will expand or not.

I am just off State Line rd and Col new castle rd .Is there anyone else in the area that does not have Rex?
