Hi,
I'm an ecologist with Penn State University and I'm looking to develop a long-term study of the relationships of natural gas drilling with the wetland and stream resources of Bradford, Tioga, and Susquehanna counties. I was wondering if there were any landowners who might be willing to participate in such a study. Your land can have an active well or simply be permitted but not yet drilled - or not yet even permitted. I would be collecting information on plants, soils, and water and (if I can find the funding) would be leaving only a water level monitoring device on your property.
At this stage I'm simply checking for interest - I have not yet secured any funding for this study. I'd be delighted to hear back from anyone. And...this is important...I won't be on anyone's property without their explicit permission.
Thanks.

Wow...that was quick! Anyway, I'd be delighted to talk with you about your property. Would you be able to provide me with some sort of coordinates that would enable me to find it on GoogleEarth?
Also, I'm out of town for about the next 10 days with limited email, so if I don't get back to you quickly, please be patient.
And thanks for your interest.
Andy
Hi,
I'm back - would it be possible to contact me directly (cac13@psu.edu) so that I can find out a bit more about your property?
Thanks.
Andy
i have only a small wetland on my land, but it is in CREP and is across the road from a well....drilled but not yet fracked; and a pipeline is to run across my land..........after traversing my wetland underground for fifty feet; now 'they' want to also run an underground waterline, which scares me more than the gasline. i am more than happy to have you study whatever you can here,,,,,i am committed to preserving from pollution this little bit of the planet; not sure i can.
i am in smithfield township, bradford county, bordering springfield road.
i only know how chesapeake operates: they came to me....my land was leased for min rights to them....to say they planned a pipeline, gas.....and walked me around to figure out placement. i was not happy about this, but from how i read my lease i thought i had to go with this voluntarily or they could place it anyway. the route was planned pretty much where i thought it would 'mess up' my little piece of the earth the least. i did consult lawyer to try to get guidance re: addenda to protect myself/my property as much as i could. this 'guidance' turned out to be insufficient, if i did it now i would do a lot differently. this all occurred spring of '09 and was told it would be installed early winter...'09. it is now spring of '11.........................lots of survey tapes, but no pipeline yet. so timeline is a real wait and see.
i was to be paid $15/linear foot of pipeline; i had to allow 50 ft of right of way for the length of the line on my land; pay would be when constructed. i believe there was also a hundred dollar up 'upfront' payment at the time of signing.
last fall...'10...i was approached because now they wanted to put a waterline, underground, in the same route. i was to 'give up' yet another twenty five feet of right of way...so now seventy-five feet the whole distance of the pipelines. i was told then that this would be a 'one dig' job...both lines being installed at the same time. i now learn that no way will this be a one dig, but for for sure two seperate digs. i was also told this would be 'fresh water' in this pipeline; then learned that 'fresh water', to the gas industry, is frac water with four fracking chemicals removed at the well.
this water pipeline is still being negotiated. this one was to be $5/linear foot. i do not want this pipeline so don't know where this will go. frankly, i fear the frac water more than the gas line; and i cannot 'afford' to give up so much land to a right of way....i have a dogleg shape property and this would really interrupt the continuity of my land and the use of it. the original gasline right of way was 'pushing it' to begin with.
so, i don't know if this helps you or not........................but know that there ARE a ton of concerns that can be addressed with proper lease addenda and wording.......so do NOT SIGN anything until you get competent legal oversight.
Barbara,
Thanks. Could you contact me directly (cac13@psu.edu) and see if you can get me a bit more specific directions? I'm trying to develop a map and I'll like to properly locate your property.
Thanks.
Andy
Ok...thanks for considering this.

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
