I came across an interesting page on the Ohio DNR website which has a fair amount of shale -related information. Just thought I'd share it with the rest of you.

There is a tremendous amount of information on the ODNR site.  You can find maps of currently pumping wells, strorage tanks, and plugged wells for example, at the 10352 tab.  If you find yourself just wanting to feel more like you know what people are talking about, spend some time there and read a bit.

My next little project to try out is go to Google Map and get the GPS coordinates of a tank sitting on some land I own that doesn't show up in their maps.  Hopefully that information will allow me to check with ODNR and see the history of the thing.  I think all wells and related items had to be registered with them, so maybe locating it exactly will help me find out what the deal is.

I find myself wondering where some of you guys are located.  'Finnbear', for example, makes me think you might be familiar with "The Fin" in Ashland.

I am in fact familiar with The Fin. I stop in there a couple times a month. Coincidentally, my alias comes from The Fin but has nothing to do with their name. My favorite deer rifle is a Sako Finnbear .30-06 that I bought at The Fin years ago.

I've always admired Sako's but couldn't afford one.  Next best in my mind, is Ruger.
The Ruger M77 bolt action is one of the best deals on the market today. An excellent gun for the money. My Dad has a couple of them and so does my brother. I got my Sako off the used rack at the Fin for $500. It is a very clean .30-06 with factory scope mounts/rings. I topped it with a Leupold Vari-X II in 3-9x40 that I got for half price at Gander Mountain one time when they had an unbelieveable half-price special going . My wife's Grandpa has a Finnbear in .264 Win Mag that I have admired for years and when I ran across mine at the Fin that day I had to buy it. I had seen the same gun as mine at gun shows for $750-$900 in similar and worse condition so I really couldn't pass it up.
I understand.
rick i own half a dozen sako's and there worth the extra $ you spend had a ruger once the triger was junk. traded it in for a sako.  brian kulp ps if you cant aford a sako look at there teka line of riffles still very good for the $. and better than most rifles out there

Here is another link...utilizes same mapping info, adds interesting assessments from the business end of the stick.

That map would be a whole lot more useful if there were some boundary lines shown.  I saw it from a link somewhere else, too.  I find it especially interesting since the one local resource is in Wooster, seat of Wayne county.  We also have KenOil located here, a pretty good size operation and linked by family to Miller Supply, one of several companies moving a fair amount of drill pipe and other materials lately.

Trust me, Charles Kendall is not related to KenOil.

KenOil was founded by Ken Miller.
