Geokinetics, Inc in Mercer County!

On my way home from work yesterday I passed six giant white trucks that had Geokinetics on the doors. There also are cables running from Sandy Lake to I-79 that connect to boxes. I found out that Geokinetics is a geophysical service company that services the petroleum and mining industries! I guess somebody is spending a lot of money to find out what is under Mercer County! I hope they find a lot of what they are looking for! Mercer County has both Marcellus and Utica.

If the Mexicans are US citizens I have no problem. Otherwise it is crap!

It is a skilled trade. If they are citizens, and they learned the trade while in Texas, and then moved here where the work is, its is understandable. Locals can not just be hired and be expected to know what to do. It is tough work and long hours, but if interesred it never hurts to apply.

I will tell you why mexicans and southerners alike are up here doing the work. PA has a bunch of

men who don't want to work or can't pass a drug test.

Don't have much respect for our workers here in PA do you. There are plenty of willing workers out there wanting to work. What is not happening is the needed training for the new jobs. For this I fault the state and the industry.

There are numerous jobs in the oilfield that don't require training. We do training on the

job. Of coarse the jobs are outside in the elements at all hours of the day & night.

I've been looking to get into this industry from my "white collar" desk job for the last six months . I must be looking in the wrong places as the usual job boards have nothing. I am drug free, hard working and would jump at the chance to get into this field. Let me know where to look if you know of any companies that will train or I'm even willing to pay for my own training if available.

Kathleen, it makes me sad to say, but Homer is telling you the truth, at least from the information I have. A customer of mine starts working June 1 on a drilling rig...as a roughneck. He knows nothing about drilling, but is a hard worker. He told me that there were 50 PA applicants for jobs with the rig. Almost 50% (23) of them failed the drug test. Another 10 couldn't pass the physical (too obese for physical work). He said that he was told to expect up to half of those that will go to work will quit in the first 2-3 weeks. So there you have the truth. It is very hard work, which unfortunately few people know the meaning of in todays world. And the pay is excellent for starters, over $20/HR.

I guess I am just out of tune. My family has always had a hard work ethic. No drugs and long hours to support out families. So I guess I believe that others are like us. You know like Murtha said Bible thumping, gun toting, rednecks, that take all the overtime and extra work they can get.

That is great news.  Hope they move over into Venango county as well.  I am in Potter county right now and they have the cables and sensors strung out along the road up here as well.

Sadly this is true. PA has a poor labor force to pick from. It's not I am biased it's a fact

I think if you included the union work force you would have a different opinion. The labor structure here is different than in the south. I am not in a union nor do I totally agree with unions however I believe they include a skilled workforce.

Homer- I really appreciate the time you are putting in here on this site answering questions.  It is really appreciated.
