Just More Propaganda Or Is There Any Truth to This E-mail?

This is my first start of a discussion, so please be gentle. 

I received this e-mail and wondered if it was just more propaganda or if there was any truth to any of it.  I believe the e-mail was started some time in 2008, because the link to the article provided was 2008.  So, it's not new, and it was before the surge of Marcellus & Utica talk. 

Are the environmentalists costing Americans MORE money than we even realize?  See for yourself.  Let me know what you think?  I have been accused of being gullible in the past.  So, again bear with me, but IF it is true, is there anything we can do about it?

As you may know, Cruz Construction started a division in North Dakota...just 6 months ago.
They sent every Kenworth (9 trucks) we had here (in Alaska) to North Dakota, and several drivers.
They just bought two new Kenworth's to add to that fleet; one being a Tri Drive tractor, and a new 65 ton lowboy to go with it.
They also bought two new cranes (one crawler & one rubber tired) for that division.
Dave Cruz said they have moved more rigs in the last 6 months in ND, than Cruz Construction moved in Alaska in the last 6 years!
Williston, ND is like a gold rush town; they moved one of our 40-man camps down there...since there are no rooms available.
Unemployment in ND is the lowest in the nation ...at 3.4 percent, last I checked.
See anything in the national news about how the oil industry is fueling North Dakota's economy?
Here's an astonishing read. Important and verifiable information:
About 6 months ago, the writer was watching a news program on oil, and one of the Forbes Bros. was the guest.
The host said to Forbes, "I am going to ask you a direct question, and I would like a direct answer;
How much oil does the U.S. Have in the ground?" Forbes did not miss a beat, he said, "
more than all the Middle East put together."
The U. S. Geological Service issued a report in April 2008, that only scientists and oil men knew was coming...but man, was it big!!
It was a revised report (hadn't been updated since 1995) on
how much oil was in this area of the western 2/3 of North Dakota, Western South Dakota, and extreme eastern Montana.

The Bakken...is the
largest domestic oil discovery since Alaska's Prudhoe Bay, and...has the potential to eliminate ALL American dependence on foreign oil. The Energy Information Administration (EIA) estimates it at...503 billion barrels. Even if just 10% of the oil is recoverable (5 billion barrels). At $107 a barrel, we're looking at a resource base...worth more than $5.3 trillion.
"When I first briefed legislators on this, you could practically see their jaws hit the floor.
"They had no idea." says Terry Johnson...the Montana Legislature's financial analyst.
"This sizable find is now
the highest-producing onshore oil field found in the past 56 years"... reports The Pittsburgh Post Gazette.
It's a formation...known as the Williston Basin, but is more commonly referred to as...the 'Bakken.'
It stretches from Northern Montana, through North Dakota and into Canada.
For years, U. S. Oil exploration has been considered a dead end.
Even the 'Big Oil' companies gave up searching for major oil wells...decades ago.
However, a recent technological breakthrough has opened up the Bakken's massive reserves, and
we now have access of up to 500 billion barrels. And...because this is light, sweet oil, those billions of barrels will cost Americans...just $16 PER BARREL!
That's enough crude to fully fuel the American economy for 2041 years straight !!!!
And if THAT didn't throw you on the floor, then this next one should - because it's from 2006 !

And it's all right here...in the Western United States ! HOW can this BE? HOW can we NOT BE extracting this? Because...the environmentalists (and others) have blocked all efforts to help America become independent of foreign oil !!!!!!! Again, we are letting a small group of people dictate our lives and our economy. WHY? Follow the money: A lot of so-called "environmentalists"...are paid by big business. If the price of oil drops, the oil companies stand to loose a lot of money...who is paying for those protesters? James Bartis, lead researcher with the study says...we've got more oil in this very compact area, than the entire Middle East, more than 2TRILLION barrels untapped. That's more than...all the proven oil reserves of crude oil in the world today... reports The Denver Post.
Don't think 'OPEC' will drop its price even with this find? Think again! It's all about the competitive marketplace...
it has to!!
Think OPEC just might be funding the environmentalists?
Got your attention yet? Now, while you're thinking about it...do this:
Pass this along. If you don't take a little time to do this, then you should stifle yourself the next time you complain about gas prices, by doing NOTHING...you forfeit your right to complain.
Now, I just wonder what would happen in this country, if everyone of you sent this to every one in your address book.

Keep that soapbox warmed up - you're gonna need it a lot in the future.

On a similar note, my son the HS senior and I had a long discussion last night about an assignment for his Govt. class. As a small group project, they have to make a persuasive presentation to the class.

The topic: Is the Declaration of Independence Still Important to Americans Today? 

The first thing I told him was - you don't need a whole presentation to answer this question - the answer is "Hell Yes!" Then I got up on my soapbox and I explained to him that the whole foundation for what it means to be an American is summed up in the second sentence of that precious document.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

I spent the next hour breaking this down word by word, explaining the background and what it means to me. I think he gets the picture now. If this assignment came from one of the other teachers in our school system, I would be very concerned. I know this teacher personally and where he is coming from, so I'm not worried at all. I would love to sit in and see if any of the other groups actually try to convince the class that the Declaration is no longer important except I'd probably get kicked out because I couldn't keep from arguing the point with them.

Because my profession is somewhat seasonal at times, last year's harsh winter gave me a bit of extra time.   I spent many hours doing family genealogy.  I knew some of the more recent "immigrants" in my family tree but confirmed a hypothesis I have had for a long awhile - the longer the family tree had been in the "New World", the less likely they were to know where or when the ancestors came to these shores.    My grandparents who knew very little of their long past family history were literally as truly "American" as you can be ( and not be a native American- a whole 'nother topic).   From the first Englishman to come to NJ befor 1615 and literally live in a cave ( yes I traced our family tree to the cave men! LOL ) - and came here for religious reasons- was a very wealthy Englishman to  Jamestown in VA to the Winthrop Fleet in the Massachusetts Bay Colony- I was amazed to see that both grandmother and grandfather traced directly back to the original settlers of this country.   That made me not only wish I had done this while they were still alive but made me profoundly aware of the incredible gift of ancestors who lived deliberately with their legacy in mind-  cognizant of those principles Finnbear stated from the Declaration.  They risked life, limb and great wealth for liberty and opportunity.   It's staggering to think about.    As we move further and further from those great people, I fear we get complacent and lose some of that fire.  

 

the CEO of Cheasapeake Energy said that the oil under eastern ohio is now the Biggest discovery ever in the history of our country. This must mean we have more than N dakota?

the CEO of CHK has said this about every play they have "discovered".  Not to discredit them, but they are publicly traded and that is something to take into consideration.  

Look back and read press releases when CHK got involved in any other play, and you will see the CEO claiming the biggest, best, and most prolific find ever in each shale play they are involved in. 

Then they complete a JV, HBP everything they can, and move on the next...

 Robert,its interesting to watch the approach the different gas company's use.Shell doesn't give any info to the public and if they do its down played,exact opposite of CHK.

Thanks for the heads-up.  I am beginning to feel that I need to toughen up already.  I have read some not so nice insults on this site time and time again.  The people that have to insult (to me) are just uneducated and have to try to bring themselves higher for some reason or other (usually because they are unsure of themselves). 

I laughed at the comment at first, then got a bit defensive....not too much though.  Even educated people have to insult though too, because they cannot grasp why someone else isn't getting it.  This is just their own frustration with lack of understanding again.  They don't understand why people like me just don't get it.  That's why we ask (even after we read).  We don't know each other's backgrounds and why each other say what we do.  I just think it's immature to insult and I'll leave it at that.

You would think that they would want to change their agenda given it could make "them" very powerful.  Even that doesn't seem to sway them though.  I'll stick with you guys.  It's what feels right in my gut.  Thanks for the open arms.

I'm glad you had me revisit that link because I followed a few more links from that site to updated information.  There will also be another assessment here in 2012.  There's even more than they projected in 2008 AND it looks like our Native Americans are going to get a huge benefit from it.  This warms my heart since we stole their land from them in the first place.  (Trail of tears anyone? Just to name one.) 

No, the numbers don't look as extreme as the e-mail makes it look, but nonetheless, they are still very substantial numbers.  Enough to not be dependent on foreign oil....my first case I was trying to get at in this posting.  Check out this link:

You have to remember Amanda that these reserves are not new discoveries.  The old maps from the 30's depicted the outline and depth of the Utica and other formations pretty close, even the wet dry estimates are close.  This is all new and exciting to us but the only thing that has changed are the new technologies to extract.  Since at best about 8% of the oil can be removed today,  that still leaves alot for the future. 

Seems we have much to look forward to then, Dan.  :-) 

I wasn't aware that the maps were outlined some eighty years ago though....very interesting indeed.  I will definitely read up on that nugget of information.  Thank you very much.
