This wont be the first time someone has mentioned the pro-drilling movie FrackNation on GMS. An article ran in the Ithaca Journal (NY), here is the link: http://www.theithacajournal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=201220223...

It looks like they need to raise $150,000 to get the GasLand rebuttal to the finish line. According to the Kickstarter website they are now over $120,000. If we each donated $100 or more, they will probably reach their goal. The link to Kickstarter is: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1009530098/fracknation?ref=live

They only get your money if they reach the goal of $150,000.

Disclosure: I dont have any stake in this venture, dont know these people in any way. I am just hoping to move public opinion in the right direction. I hope they are successful.

Hi David,

After reading many discussions about all this ...and this discussion led me to look online about the topic more....I realize now what really should be important is our lease clauses working for our behalf for the 'just in case' and in reviewing my own lease I found that if there was a water contamination problem even once that the company promises only to fix that "one time' and then a release is to given so no future complaints can be made.   That is difficult as one well with a problem (or a brine pit problem) that somehow could cause a water problem could possibly and their promise is to solve it....but only once.   so when they add ten or twenty more wells, etc. the contract clause only covers one time.   So thank you for introducing this discussion and I added a new discussion about covering the lease better for the Lessor and the Lessee to have a better understanding going into the lease.   Yes, we all hope that the 'for fracking' info is absolutely correct....but why are there clauses in the contract concerning water contamination if it hasn't been ever a problem?   So I am a newbie at all of this...I tend to think I like both sides right now making noises as that should get hopefully some legislation of some new type of clauses on our contracts ...and if not on the contracts as many have leases already...then in new state laws regarding who pays what when and how often.

VG, Brine pits are not being used anymore from all the sources I read, as well as not seeing any of them in Western pa in the last 2 years. That possible hazard has faded into the past. Start reading more current articles to be more up to date.

Although not commonly used anymore in Ohio, they remain a legal way to temporarily store the flowback from a well here. If this method fits a particular well location because it is more convenient or less costly, you can bet it will be used again in some cases.

Driving to work is not even completely safe. No one can claim that any activity or process is COMPLETELY safe.

I'll bet , if you would work up some statistics , you would find that there are many more "statistically dangerous" situations in everyone's daily routine of activities.

How many PROVEN AND DOCUMENTED fracking incidents since it's inception?

How many lives lost to air travel since it's inception?

What about automobiles?

Choking to death while eating?

Tripping and falling down a staircase?

Getting stoned and drowning in your tub?

Driveby shootings?

Farm related accidents / fatalities?

My money is on fracking accidents falling way below any of the above as a statistical probability.

This nation has a myriad of regulations and high standards of engineering that help us all enjoy a much safer quality of life.

We can run scared and trust nothing or no one , have no faith in our advancements in science and engineering , second guess every minute detail of every thing outside of our area of expertise........OR place a little trust in the experts and feel secure in the knowledge that we do have , in fact , some of the highest standards in the world.

We are not a Third World Nation , for crying out loud!

Very well-stated Glenn, and a nice way to put the perceived risk into perspective!

Thank you Carl.
