We have been approached about testing in our area of northern Washington county.I was wondering if anyone has received a fee per acre or otherwise for letting them do their work on their property.  I understand they will be drilling bore holes and setting  charges off to measure  for the Marcellus  formation.

Mark I was wondering if some one wants to know whats beneath your land can we ask to see whats in the checking account of the CEO? Really In a way I think a landowner should be given a copy of the testing results possibly a confidential release  should be considered.

there was a check for about 1200.+ given  in 2010 when seismic testing was done.  There was no notice given just a check in the mail after the testing was done but there was a telephone call from the company explaining they were on site about it but the people who called said they did not expect us to receive any payment...but then payment came.  Also it was not referenced in our lease for any payment so it was a blessing.  I think it depends also on how many acres and what type of testing is necessary (like how many charges are set off, etc.).

Billy, I asked for a copy and they laughed when I spoke to the lady on the telephone while she was on site.   They seismic company is hired by the oil company and they won't give a copy...confidential info.

Imagine if you really knew what they found then you would really know what you have.   I think the new leases should require a copy of the seismic testing...would they give it?

this is a link to a video of seismic testing...on a website I just found

http://vimeo.com/8423174   worth watching, excellent narration.

Excellent video - please note, the use of explosives is only done in areas that are not accessible to the large vibe trucks.  If a survey is being done in open fields, or places with more road access they would much rather drive trucks around (same goes for the helicopters).  Oh, and a side note they do have extra-large tires that cause less surface disturbance - I saw a shoot in Wyoming where they drove over sage brush and it popped right back up with no mark.

Cheers!

Sage brush is virtually indestructible, lets see them do that with row crops.

It is to the land owners advantage to let the oil companies run siesmic a short line ran across one property will not tell you anything it would be like looking at one frame out of a movie.

Couger land services is GIVING, not up for debate on the price, in Columbiana county ohio, 25 dollars or 3 dollars an acre.  If you have more than 8 acres than they give you the 3 dollar per acre.  I have yet to hear of anyone get more than this around here.

I asked if we would get the results or could peek as they were doing it.  Nope.

So far it hasn't been a bother they just tagged around with their ribbons but as far as I can tell they haven't done the testing yet.  The only problem I had was my dogs not being allowed out to bark at the poor guy for hours.

I was also paid $5 per acre in Tioga Co. and agree with Mathew there was no disruption to property.

Katherine, What does this have to do with the topic of this discussion? Nothing that I can see.

Here we go, another guy looking to wring out a buck from the dillers....Do you folks lay in hammocks dreaming up ways to drain a few more bucks from the drillers?  Seismic testing, even if not specifically mentioned in your lease, is certainly implied, and even hoped for by the lessor as the next step to actually getting drilled.

First of all its not the driller doing the testing but a company that is being compensated by them to perform the testing. This company is who I have to sign the contract with not Range resources.Although they state there will be minimal intrusion, they tell you they have to cut lines on your property to run equipment and will remove trees up to 6" in diameter.Yes, I do want to see progress being made and am willing to help in making it happen however,I do not think asking if  anyone is being being compensated for possible damages to trees and property is wringing out a buck.

About 25 years ago I had a seismic team that ran a line in eastern Licking county into Muskingum and through my property in a from the north west to the south east . I let them with no big deal on it. Later that same year I ran a charter fishing trip up on Lake Erie for that same company on a friends boat. At about half way through the morning they said hey skipper ya mind if we light up a joint?

My response was you get that off this boat NOW or the US Coast Guard will be escorting this boat to take you to jail! Stupid as stupid could get, if the coast Guard would have boarded for just an inspection and caught that aboard the boat they would have taken the boat everything!

Really leaves a charter boat captain in a pickle, you can say zero drug policy on your ads but what are you supposed to do have everyone go skinny dipping before you leave dock?

But back to topic here. What we have is Private Property the land belongs to the land owner and it is we who decides who or what we will allow upon our property.  Chartist if I was approached with you need to do this attitude I'd say well you best have a rig in your back pocket because there is no  promise any one of us will have a well.

Farmers and landowners for hundreds of years allowed hunting upon their private property without payment. Those that appreciated hunting on that property usually offered game they took or found the time to pay a visit around hay making time or to help cut some fire wood.

I can not think of a better way to see a NO TRESPASSING SIGN be put up than to have attitude that one is better than the landowner.
