I was just in town getting gas when a Texan asked me where he could get a good steak for dinner. I never realized how tough of a question that really was. He said that he was heading to a drill rig 50 miles South, and was looking for a place to sit down with a good steak.
We went in, and had a conference with the cashiers. After some hard thinking we finally came up with BB Rooners 3 blocks away. We are in Salem, Ohio.
I have no idea if their steaks are any good, but that was all we could come up with at the time.
On the way home I started thinking that there have to be lots of Texans reading this site that might have the same question about where to eat. Maybe we can help the boys out, and name a few places that might remind them of a good Texas steak.
Just East of Salem on the edge of Washingtonville is Mason's Steaks. Never been there can't say how it is.
Heading East of Columbiana on route 14 is Bojangles Roadhouse. It has a big red sign on top that says BBQ & Brew. Been there before, not bad.
A mile East of that in Unity Township is the Texas Roadhouse. Never been there, can't say how it is.
Anybody else, feel free to name your town, and help these guys find some good steak.

The Road House in Unity on Rt.14 is excellent!
I am a Texan. I was up hunting my farm in November and had a awesome steak at place in Hopedale, Oh which I believe was called Capraros.
I would second Texas Roadhouse in Alliance. Best steak and county cooking around with great service and pricing. Mason's on rt 14 in Washingtonville is also great.
Welcome to Ohio boys!
I like this story, here is a suggestion to the rodeo type, ask the local Amish for your meat. One of my transplant carpenter from Calif. has chickens and a pig running around his residential house, the chickens have been eaten and pig is next. All provided directly by the Amish.
HArd to find really really good steaks/BBQ in the area.

Tioga County, PA--Mansfield, Wellsboro; within 50 miles of Williamsport (PA) and Corning, NY
Papa V's in Mansfield--good Italian, and the last two years, steak on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Good meal, good portions, good prices 6 stars on a 5 star scale
The Steak House in Wellsboro--a traditional family steak house.5 stars
Tony's Italian Restaurant (sorry, no steak) in Wellsboro 5 stars
Also, if you have your own grill, check with any Mennonite store (Stony Fork Country Store, 7 miles outside Wellsboro has excellent subs and sundries) for their people who supply meat--their meat is nearly always excellent, and has less preservatives, etc. Also, the Stony Fork Store has meaty, excellent bacon for sale in 5 lb packs for under $20. They also have farmer's markets in summer with great produce.

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
