What's your theory for why they are different?

The biggest problem that the state of New York has is New York City which is almost exclusively liberals that believe all the anti crap. And they send liberal legislators to Albany to enforce their beliefs. And NYC and its surrounding population is so large that it easily dominates the entire state.

We have a similar problem in Pa with Philly and its suburbs. They run this state as they control 60% of the legislature. Add in some libs from the greater Pittsburgh area and you see why the state is in such dire financial straights.

I have been saying for years that central and western NY, central and western Pa, and eastern Ohio should break away from the ties that bind them and start a new state. Even throw in the pan handles of WV. Or all of WV. This geographic area has much in common and is always dominated and ignored by their state's legislators. Its rust belt towns have been destroyed by poor government policies and need a clean break.

I've felt this way for years. But now it would be great to do as this area corresponds amazingly well with the Marcellus and Utica shales. Now this area can break away and be financially sound right from the get-go. And imagine the outcry from the libs when they see this cash cow disappear.

What a great idea!

I second that emotion !

I think Jim should be our first governor!!!

Is he conservative?  If so, I'll nominate him.

Lets call it   newohiopawv

Let,s call the new state , New Start

Count me in too Jim! This Dog is definitely sick and tired of being wagged by it's tail.

I live in Rochester, NY and agree. But there is one problem with Central NY, Ithaca. I know first hand as I attended and graduated from Cornell. If you thought NY City was home to liberalism, welcome to it's capitol. You would need to carve Tompkins County out, clearly the most liberal county in NY State.
Dave

That's for sure!

Wait a minute. I live in Tompkins Co. When we cut things up,please include the Town of Caroline in our new state, excluding our own NYC(Brooktondale).I live in the Speedsville area, which was once included in Tioga Co. Save us!!! I stand alone in our town hall fighting the liberal antis. They totally ignore the fact that we are not a Democracy, but a Constitutional Republic.I explained this and the tyrany of democracy. Explained the oath they take and the pledge of aleagence to the flag and the Republic for which it stands, that make before every council meeting. Since they insist we are a Democracy. I asked if they were commiting treason.Creating a new, contrary government with in the boundries of the United States. Also asked if they might be removed from office for breaking  their oath. They ignore me.

Me for Governor???  Can I have Ron Eiselsten as a running mate?

I'll take Cornell...it would be fun to see them squirm when they are surrounded. lol

One of the cool things about it is if you look at a map, you would see that Pittsburgh and Cleveland are on opposite corners.  The other corners would be Buffalo and Wheeling...or Charleston if you include all of WV.  That way there is no one dominate population center. The new state would be surprisingly balanced with no one area able to control and dominate the rest.

Alas, it s only a dream. One wrought with a myriad of legal hurdles. I don't know if it is even possible.  But if we started a movement and got enough people trying to see it through, it would certainly get the attention of the various state legislators and maybe force them to listen to our issues.

Sure would be fun......
