The revolution to transform the US from an oil run economy to an economy that runs on natural gas has begun.

Chrysler has announced a nat gas pick up truck that will be on sale this year.

It uses technolgy by Fiat and is cheaper than a diesel truck.

Navistar has been working on LNG fueled big rigs.

GM is doing a JV with Westport to develop small nat gas engines ofr its cars;

More and more nat gas fueling stations are opening, many in our area of Pa/Oh

Long Live the Revolution!!!

Dominion natural gas stopped by my store to read the meter, I was afraid he would accuse me of being a fractivist and scream "No Gas for You!" , instead he started showing me the Dominion CNG truck he drives around, boy was he proud of it!

Jim, This is great news !  Thank you for sharing !  Nancy

Natural gas has been used for years in vehicles. Propane powers trucks, buses, farm tractors, fork lifts, generators you name it. NG  compressed to LNG is and is being used in the same manner in some areas.

I just wished Chrysler would have not given up on turbine engine powered  cars. The government made them drop the research in their first bankruptcy.  Yep gas turbines power commercial power plants. Power battle tanks, military ships, and most helicopters. Remember the STP car that dominated the Indy 500 so well they outlawed the use!

Can you speak more to the NG turbine, pictures?

Sure Ron and to others. There are so many but not many know about them as they think electric generation is primarily coal, hydo, or nuke powered. Here are a few applications

Some neat pics on this site. A turbine powered looks like a Ford Gt 440 is pictured lower in the window below aling with a lot of applications of turbines.

About mid page you can look at gas turbine power plants all over the world and list their size and type.

Nice thing about gas turbines is they can run on any fuel even firewood!  Individuals have made jet engines (TURBINES) out of regular TURBO CHARGERS used in cars and diesel trucks.  They can even be run in NG.  See http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=home+made+jet+engines&a...

Regular cars using  powered by turbine see http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=chysler+gas+turbine+car...

The Chysler was set up for liquid fuel however turbines can be multi fuel. In Florida commercial gas turbine electrical generation plants use NG from the gulf and switch to fuel oil when the rigs get shut down by hurricanes.

So yes THE SHALE PLAY has a market, only limited by imagination.

Thanks Billy,       It is a shame that early in the play we couldn't have collectively organized as landowners, suburbanites and urbanites to steward this gift of energy toward  a brighter future, but today many of these words are shadowed in negativity. Not considering those trying to derail our country, many of our civic and elected leaders are far removed from insight and concern for much of anything, except their own future, let alone our countries future.   As landowners we should be demanding in our O&G lease to be able to buy NG at wellhead price.  Then we could burn it thru our own NG turbine generators and create our own networked power generation. GE even makes the mobil units here in Ohio.  If you have a concrete pad and hookups in place its only minutes after placement till you are generating enough to build or power a small town.  All without the 25% midstream costs.  There should be enough expertize here on GMS to start a new landowner for profit NG power generation group. Anyone interested in investing some of their royalties in our backyards?

Right now GE is building the new Eco multi-fuel high efficiecy NG power plants in France not here. http://www.ge-energy.com/solutions/combined_cycle_power_plants.jsp Here in the USA,  GE brings to life: G.E. Plans to Build Largest Solar Panel Plant in U.S. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/04/07/business/energy-environment/07ele... .  Seems bass akwards to me?

Sounds like something I would consider investing in "in our backyard"!

Interesting idea.  If royalty money is quickly re-invested in a business, you don't pay taxes on it until it either generates a profit or is sold at a profit.  This can potentially both delay and reduce your taxes, even reducing it to a 15% capital gains.  Worth looking into.

Even if ultimately you end up in the high tax bracket, better to pay 42% on 10 million instead of a 1/2 million.

looking to invest. contact www.cngonesource.com. you could invest or possibly franchise.

How about a natural gas fired "Stanley Steamer?"

Now that would be cool!

There was a segment last night on The Science Channel about a 6 cylinder  steam powered rotary engine  that would power either generators or cars which had enough torque it did not need a transmission, and because it is an external combustion engine, what ever fuel is used is burned more completely. The water is the engine lubricant  and is contained in a closed loop system so it doesn't need to be replaced (topped off I would think). The design looked to be very cost efficient and study. It maybe a good candidate for a home power generator and use the waste heat from the condenser to heat a home. I couldn't find any info online but found a video of a model that works on the same principle.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1d33uTjTXW8&feature=related

Turns out they powered a plane with a similar design in the 1930's....

It doesn't hurt to look back to go forward.
