WTF DNR?

does anyone have an update on the DNR's lack of posting production reports?

better yet, anyone reading this from the DNR - please tell the good people of Ohio (your bosses) why the delay - and when you expect to produce some production reports.

maybe it's not a big deal, maybe the oil companies were late, maybe they are under staffed, maybe the info isn't worth much to anyone.......but maybe the DNR could at least fill us in with a public statement.

Maybe it is time for someone to file a "Freedom of Information Request"  This delay has to be deliberate for someone's benefit.

I agree! Got to be more to it than lack of time or understaffing. Someone,somewhere is benefiting from it financially, or politically.  Who cares anymore!  They will soon HAVE TO do every 3 months!

I am thinking that a deliberate delay is very possible.

Is that "Freedom of Information Request" somthing official?.....or did you just make that up?

Freedom of Information Requests is a real legal request.  But you must be specific on what you are requesting.  For example, You can request specific production results from specific wells, but vague requests may get a vague response.

thanks Jason. I googled it and found the attached sample form. I also read that

"Nothing in the Ohio law requires a statement of purpose. In fact records requests need not even be submitted in writing and can be made anonymously. [1] According to statute, there are no restrictions to the use of records nor can intended use play a role in denying a request."

also;

"The Ohio law does not specify a time limit on open records request."

that last one seems to say the effort may be futile. I think I'm gonna try anyway.

I once filed a "Freedom of Information Request" and the agency that I was requesting the information from handed me the forms to fill out.  So If you go the ODNR and request information on a particular well, they may have the forms to fill out.

I did a Public Records request to the Ohio Department of Health vie just a Email and received data galore as I had requested all former Ohio Tobacco Prevention  Foundation Board meeting minutes which opened the door to more request. It was through that request I found that they spent $100,000 in one community and had two women supposedly  quit smoking! By the way these women were not paid to quit!

I think its sad that  our government blew $100,000 on a anti smoking program and had that kind of results. By the way the OTPF had $22,000,000 to try and stop smoking with, tried to give that money to a out of State  anti smoking group when the legislators had decided Ohio's unemployed needed that money more.

 I through a PR request PA Department of Health was given a list of 2,796 businesses that had requested exemption from their smoking ban, the names, addresses and dates. If the ODNR responds in kind it should be interesting.

i sent the letter and asked for 2012 results on 5 wells.........i'll post response if i get one.

Use of confidential information for personal benefit before public disclosure could be considered "insider trading".   ODNR should be careful with the information and think twice about disclosing it to third parties before they give it to the public.

Very good point Hiker. Another point; just the act of delaying the information could be benificial to the very gasco's that provided the info. CHK for example is still leasing property.....IF good info gets out, it could impact lease prices. My brother is currently being pressured by CHK to sign at todays rates. He is not sure if he should wait or not....could go either way i suppose.

But it sure does smell fishy and gets smellier by the day. The first couple weeks there were some believable excuses.......but 6 weeks?
