WIth a group from the Champion/Bristol area hooking up with Chesapeake, is there anyone in Mecca Township being approached by anyone? I got a letter from Treadwell Energy and when the rep. came to the house he was offering $100.00/acre. I almost laughed, but I told him I was keeping my options open. Any info. for Mecca would be greatly appreciated.

Hold on Jeff.  I think that all of us in Mecca, Johnson, Fowler, Hartford, Vernon, and Kinsman areas are a long way away from getting any decent propositions from anyone.  Route 88 runs through Bristol, Mecca, and Johnson.  Our farm is just south of Johnson and Route 88.  To my knowledge, the only company that's made offers greater than $100/acre is Cobra.  They offered $200/acre.  Somebody is going to have to drill a well that's a significant producer in Trumbull County or across the line in Pa. before any of us will see offers that are substantial.

I don't think it's that far off at all. The rep from Treadwell told me they're talking about drilling within 18 months. And Bristol is about a mile from me. Chesapeake has been moving east and Mecca is next. So I just figured things were about to get rolling and I was hoping there was a group of people from Mecca so everyone would benefit.

I also think the Utica shale is what's going to be good for us. Yes it's deeper, but it's what everyone is talking about. So I think Pa. is not going to dictate what happens with us.

Is Treadwell talking about Chesapeake drilling in 18 months or is Treadwell drilling the well in 18 months?

You're also right in thinking that Marcellus is not nearly as significant as the Utica.  did Treadwell tell you they were drilling for Marcellus or Utica in 18 months?

What do you think was the agent's point in giving you that information?

Why do you think companies like Treadwell and Cobra think landowners should negotiate with anyone other than Chesapeake?

I think it's interesting that both Cobra and Treadwell have names that refer to SNAKES.  The rattlesnake was used as an early American political symbol in Ohio during President Tyler's campaign.  A slogan was printed beneath the rattlesnake that said, "Don't Tread on Me."  The company name Treadwell reminds me of that.

Let's see if anyone makes a hole in 18 months.  If it happens to be a gusher, we can certainly expect more from our leases.  If not.  We just have to wait for someone to drill deeper.

Treadwell lead me to believe they were going to be drilling. The rep. wants me to get the group together, 800 acres plus is what they want. And all they talked about was Marcellus. I'm not sure why that info was divulged to me and franlky, I don't put too much merit in it.

I am completely new to this. I got the letter on Saturday, and met with the rep. last night. This is my first and only experience with oil and gas leases. I have been doing a lot of reading and googling, lol, and I really think these companies are trying to get out ahead of Chesapeake and get the mineral rights leased so when Chesapeake comes through, they'll be the ones profiting. That's just my opinion at this point. That's another reason I think Chesapeake will be on our doorsteps anytime now.

Your snake analogy is a little freaky......but true! =)

I have to apologize. The company that visited my house was Trendwell, not Treadwell. I looked at the contract again last night. Sorry for the error.

No big deal.  A rose by any other name--is just a rose.  Treadwell or Trendwell.  We know what you are talking about.  It's great to have you aboard.  Read all that you can.  Explore this website.  There are people here that know more than either one of us.

This shale business is a little shady.  We're all new at this.  Sounds like Trend' Well is handing you a line.  "Sign Up to be one of our 800 patrons!"  Isn't that swell?  The rep wants you to do his dirty work for him.

Look up the profile and history of any company that approaches you.  Just type their name on the internet and search.

That's funny.  They want to jump the gun on Chesapeake?  SURE.  Let's go get the land leased up before Chesapeake does then reassign the lease to Chesapeake for a profit.  That's what he means.  What a scoundrel.
