In PA, how does one figure out who has acreage in a production unit and how much of their acreage is within the unit. Other states have unit plats, does PA? I have seen plats that are associated with a drilling permit but all that shows is the orientation of the proposed drilled lateral. Does PA have a plat that shows the outline of the unit, who is in the unit and how much acreage each has within the unit? If so, how, exactly, does one find this?

I seem to recall that PA has unit declaration documents that are filed in the county courthouse each time a unit is formed. Do these contain unit plats?

If there is no unit plat, how does one know the unit shape? If it is a pooling of various leases together, does the outline of the unit (the pooled leases) exist anywhere?

PA's DEP Interactive Oil & Gas Map is at this locatoin:

http://www.depgis.state.pa.us/PaOilAndGasMapping/OilGasWellsStrayGa...

Click on the  i  (identify) in the left hand border of the map, then zoom into a well and click on the dot or each well head. Documents will be available, but the plat maps Ohio shows in their O&G Map are missing from the quick look I just took. Maybe a few phone calls requesting that the Plat Maps for each well should be provided will give the DEP the idea to add the Plat maps. Tell them Ohio has Plat Maps on their Interactive O&G Map.

One used to be able to use email to request a well Plat. I did many times a few years ago. They would email back the files to you in a fairly short time, sometimes the same day...for free.

There used to be a link listing the email address, but I have no idea where it is located now on their website.

Hopeful,

Following up on Craig's information, contact Katie Schmid senior geologist, email- kschmid@pa.gov  for your plats. State what you want, then add name of the well, township and county, and the gas company name. She will get back to you quickly,as Craig stated, and it is free. Hope this helps, Lew

Yep, that is the same person! Thanks for digging it up, I'll save it this time ; )
