Law Suits and CHK

Started this discussion. Last reply by Gas heir Sep 21, 2014. 43 Replies

I would find a listing of ongoing suits against CHK to be of interest to me. I suspect that others may find suits against other companies of interest as well. Would it be possible/worthwhile to have…Continue

AQUIFER CONTAMINATION WATCH

Sadly there doesn't appear to be any ongoing monitoring of aquifers related to drilling activity, This is not a single county issue, but an environmental issue that each of us needs to be alert to.…Continue

It's What You Keep That Counts

Posted on September 24, 2013 at 2:45pm 0 Comments

There are many fine comments about royalties/bonus signup payments/pad size/payment deductions etc. but the bottom line always comes down to what's in the pot after all is said and done, for the landowner. There are also many issues about right of ways/contract language/misunderstanding etc., all reflecting the final amount left in the pot.

What I don't see enough of is the concerted effort to address the wrongs, to band together to speak with one voice, to make/take a stand about…

It's Not About Up-Front Money

Posted on June 14, 2011 at 6:00pm 10 Comments

Dear All,

It's not the amount of money up front that you get, nor is it the royalty % that ought to rivet your attention. The real question is how much of whatever you get will you be able to keep? I just finished paying .43 cents on the dollar back to the government- that's a hefty bite out of the proceeds before any royalties have started to flow.

The expertise of knowledgeable accountants should have been sufficient. It was not. I have been getting all sorts of conflicting…

Aquifer Contamination-Part 2

Posted on March 21, 2010 at 5:30pm 47 Comments

Dear Shalers,

In Part 1 of the Aquifer Contamination discussion we explored the pro's & con's of the proposed drilling that is expected, and seemed to have come to several observations:

1) Drilling is good for the economy and produces jobs and revenue

2) Drilling techniques have been used for a long time, and the fracing process is non-hazardous

3) The drilling can cause contamination when proper procedures are not followed

4) The companies doing the drilling are not… Continue

Hi Daniel,

One thing that helps if you tag the discussions. I try to go through and tag them if possible, but often it isn't. Tagging is what allows the search mechanism to pick it up.

Dear Carolyn, thanks for the kind words and getting back to me. As a truth sayer, you will not permit yourself to quit. Nor should you. I've tried to carry on the search for clear talking, and have been spending some time on the blog site entitled "Aquifer Contamination". Please check it out if you haven't already done so. I don't know how to put a link into this place to get you to there, so it will be a bit of a hunt. Sorry for that.

Dan, I'm not accustomed to giving legal advice for free nor soliciting business on this site. If you are in Morgantown perhaps you should seek advice from a local attorney who devotes a fair amount of time to the oil and gas business. Stephen Shuman comes to mind and there are a few others, perhaps even one at the law school although I doubt you'll find anyone there conversant in the lease terms being offered presently in Mon County.

That is fine if they want to share information about general terms of leases of which they have personal knowledge, but his question was about the validity of a lease signed only by the lessor. In doing so, he is asking a legal question which requires an informed response.

Welcome to GMS. I hope the site is a place for you to learn and contribute. I look forward to your participation. Be sure to check out the county groups to get plugged in to local site members.

best,

I'd be interested in knowing anything about a "no surface activity lease". What the range of $/acre might be, and the range of royalities.
