i take it you don't live here on the land being leased. easy to not be concerned in that situation.

Nice jumping to conclusions based on a 3 word sentence, but you're wrong. I have leased my land.  Here's a four word phrase for you and see if you can interpret it: No risk, no gain. That pretty much goes for all areas of human endeavor throughout history.

i guess i'm more in the thought of gain but at no/minimal risk.  we don't HAVE to be polluted or the land/water no longer usable if we all just take our time to discover just what ARE the effects of drilling or that procedure or chemical...if safe, go full throttle; if not, fix it , then go full throttle.  makes sense to me.

when i was a kid it was standard and routine to try on a pair of shoes at a shoe store and then go stand in the xray machine in the store  to see my toes wiggle and then show my brother and we all played with it.  routine. fun.  at every kids shoe store.  the 'gain' was shoes that fit well...

don't see much of that today...............................it was fun and 'safe' then.....until someone added up the radiation emitted to each kid.  too much risk for the amount of gain.

(yes..........the dinosaurs were actually eliminated by these machines, but don't tell anyone...we played with them, too). 

but this is all i'm talking about..................can we still xray feet....for a reason and with care....yup.  can we drill for gas with care and safety?  i think so, hope so.  but i surely don't want to discover AFTER the fact that NE PA is no longer farmable.

and i haven't called anyone a derogetory name and don't feel a need to.

There is a far greater risk to our state and our nation if we do not develope our own resources and employ our own people with decent jobs.  How many of our sons and daughters have died as a result of our need for mid east oil?

It used to be a kid could come out of high school and go to the mill and make a decent living and have a home and family.  Well, those jobs are gone, probably forever.  Now, even with a degree, many people find themselves far in debt when they come out of college and are unable to find a decent job, if they can find one at all.  And not everyone is college material.    

The good paying jobs this gas industry is bringing to PA is well worth the minimal risk, the 'what might happen' scenarios in my opinion.  And these workers will pay taxes and maybe they'll be able to afford a house and a piece of land.  Taxes will be paid on bonuses and royalties.   And the bonus\royalty money will be spent in our communities.  Would you deny these people opportunity just so you can live your life in 100%  risk free?

I don't think you have to worry about NE PA being made unfarmable.  What was done in NW and NC PA during the infancy of the oil industry would pale anything that could be done today.  Those streams that were once polluted with oil now contain trout and the forest that was denuded is forested again and there are plenty of good farms in the area where the oil boom started.

I'm not sure what you mean by the derogatory name commit.  I do think you owe me an apology for impugning my character when you implied that I wasn't concerned because I didn't live on the land I leased.

that is how it goes - if some people do not like what they hear here - they automatically turn to "integrity of this site" or "derogatory" comments -it is all they have left to stand on after they realize you are not going to believe their point of view - i almost think that this is a waste of time commenting on, however, it is disturbing to see people write inaccuracies like the loss of farm land or insurance co. will drop if you lease.  this whole tag has been a set up for some people to drag others into negative comments and nonsense.  I am still waiting for actual facts.

it really is pretty funny, isn't it, lara?  better than SNL.  oh well...........................................those who feel so defensive that they feel the need to attack others due to a different point of view are probably feeling worried that at least SOME of the points not out of their own mouths just MIGHT warrant considering.....and that WOULD be scary to someone of written-in -stone viewpoints, i would think.

on the other hand, how neat that we CAN all sit around and argue.....but again, i really do not see the reasons behind name-calling or attacking....every one of us on the site SHOULD have the same amount of weight to their opinions/ideas as every other one.  i am hoping we can get back to that frame of mind here...........and learn something.

in the mean time i am sitting here lol at how hot under the collar some have seemed to become.

ok..so....SNL and Gasland are the same show as far as i am concerned, like all other video or news productions, just enterntaining the world of people who do not know any better or have no experience or ability to make their own judgement based on their own knowledge.  So...they rely on video productions to learn the "truth".  I was part of these documentary productions, and i guess i don't need to say this, but, they are not entirely true.  Just a song and dance show for those people who do not have their own mind.. I currently live around many wells and have not heard any concerns - do i expect it to be perfect?  Maybe i will make a new propduction and post it here --thinking maybe about the decline of intelligent people in America.

Dan - Thank you and I appreciate your comments.  No one has to look any further than Pittsburgh to a city that industry absolutely polluted.  Yes - I wouldn't eat any fish out of the Allegheny River but the fishing is fantastic :).

Joe - I'm glad you had a great experience.  And in hearing stories, it seems like wells put in years ago don't seem to have any problems.  I really believe the problems NOW are related to inexperienced crews coming in and just doing the job fast and loose so they can get on to the next job.  I don't doubt that this can be done safely - I really don't.  If you look at the accident records, the majority of the water contamination has been from accidents.  Closed-loop frac water containment systems cut down on the toxic chemicals released into the air.  So the industry is safe (or as safe as any other industrial industry).  It's unfortunate that the media chooses to focus on the accidents and not the success stories.  I think the industry was much safer 20 years ago when there wasn't such a rush to get these wells done.

When you had your wells installed, were you blatantly lied too by anyone involved in the process?  I PERSONALLY know two other people who have signed leases who were lied to or intentionally misled by the gas company.  Our entire land owner's group was lied to.  This kind of behavior does not install confidence in the industry at all.
