I've got about a dozen maps from different producers, and I don't see a whole lot of variation between them.

Joe,

 To me, this map looks like a simple DEPTH Chart. The Contour Lines show the various DEPTHS of the Utica. Then the colors change from Red to Yellow to Green to Blue to Purple exactly as the Utica gets deeper. We all know that depth is just one factor, of many factors, that must be considered when determining where to drill.

 

 The DEPTH chart from one driller should look very similar to Depth chart from all the other drillers. Anything new here ???

It seems every map is skewed a bit to make themselves look like they're in the best position in the play...these maps are for investors.  Gotta spin it in their favor!  I take this all fairly loosely and notice most of the maps have the 5-county core as a consistent.  The lines of wet/dry/oil tend to shift based on who the presenter is and where their acreage lies.

James:  What township is your property in? I own some property In French Creek Twp. between old 285 and Utica. Trying to figure where your property is, and then figure distance from my property to this Halcon well. I'm puzzled because I am unaware of any Halcon leases in Venango County. They did lease 40,000 acres in Mercer County. Web search says  no Utica/Marcellus wells drilled at least thru mid July in Mercer County. But they are drilling in Venango County?? I was told by a friend that Halcon is out of money to lease any further property unless and until they go to the secondary capital markets.  Perhaps the well in Venango is designed to prove resources which would likely free up the capital markets and thus give them money to lease further???

Samuel, our property is mainly in Mercer county, only about 40 of the acres is in Venango County, but the well site Halcon is drilling is right on the Venango/Mercer county line, within 1-2 miles away of Mercer County. Our property consists of My property, my moms farm, my aunts farm, and my brothers farm, it all pretty much continus,  almost all of it touches each other on some boundry. Most of the property is located in Mill Creek and Sandy Lake townships. I also heard Halcon is pretty much spent out, they cant lease without money. Who knows what these companies plans are, but if the well on Valley road that Halcon is getting ready to drill that is about 1 mile from our acreage is good, we should be sitting in a good position.

On that new map, The wells in Harrison county that hit big, are on the 6800 ft line. Chesapeake is drilling wells on that same 6800 ft line here in Columbiana county. There are no wells in production yet, But I've been told they hit good oil and wet gas. Just have to wait and see.

What are the dashed parallel lines running through the yellow, please?

You have to zoom in to see it, but red dashed is edge of dry gas, blue is the wet gas (western edge), dark green is volatile oil, and purple to the west is the immature line.

So.....being located between the blue and the green lines should be a great location?

I would think so.  Probably anything west of dry gas to a little west of volatile gas should be very good, and the dry gas area should be good when prices climb. What is interesting to me is how the lines just end as they move north.  I am in Warren county, doesn't seem to be much info out there.  This map seems to shift the fairway (yellow/green) more to the SE than others I have seen.  Also they have the point pleasant cutting off much further south than other maps.

Understood......everything is "could be"   until drilled and proven
