President Promotes Shale Production…Again
EID-O's Dan notes President Obama's recent statements supporting shale development:
"Last week, amidst the national conventions, President Obama sounded off in an interview with Ron Ponder of WHBC in Canton. As one could imagine, in a show based in Ohio’s “Utica Capital”, energy – and Ohio’s development of the Utica Shale specifically – was a topic of interest.
As Energy in Depth previously reported, oil and natural gas development is enjoying bi-partisan support in the midst of an election year – one of a few issues all sides of the aisle can agree on.
Reiterating previous statements (including a few from this year’s State of the Union address), the President again emphasized his support of the development of our domestic energy resources, acknowledging it’s role in providing energy security and boosting our economic recovery.
I am a big promoter of natural gas as a way for us to reduce our dependence on foreign energy sources, but also to create jobs. – President Obama (Obama on fracking: ‘I am a big promoter of natural gas’, 9/5/12)
Reducing our dependence on foreign energy and creating jobs – a cause everyone can promote.
And it’s not theoretical. That was made evident last week as well, as hundreds gathered in Youngstown for the YOUNG Expo to take advantage of the vast opportunities Ohio’s oil and gas industry is providing.
Even at this early stage of development, we are already seeing the positive impact development is having on our workforce. As the Salem News reported, over 8,000 jobs have already been created thanks to Ohio’s development, and there is more to come."

Well said Samuel, this current adminstration attacks the oil companys all the time, by saying they don't pay their fair share of taxes all the time, and they are talking about the landowner who has only a couple of acres receiving royalities.

We export most of our coal??? What kind of uniformed statement is that? Over 85% of the coal mined in this country is used in this country. Mostly for electical generation. Then we get these stupid politicians who promote electric cars and are against all energy unless it is their green energy when the electricity is mostly produced by coal.
Yes Dems promote clean use of energy, but they promote the "clean use" to the extent that it becomes too expensive to use. They want to make geen energy competitive with fossil fuels. If it is not green energy, they want to stop it and they use the enviromental regulations to accomplish their goals. They want to use this same method of using enviromental regulations to stop fracing and gas drilling.

Another Amen.............most of the folks in here get it.............there has never been a President as anti fossel fuels as the one in there now........he will do everything he can if reelected to shut down any and all drilling in this country......in his second term he will become more agressive in his approach to "Green Energy" his only Energy agenda....he is not interested in the American economy.........he is only interested in his ideology.......... he will say anything to get reelected................... imho.......Gary

Anyone that really thinks Obama is in favor of fracking has got to be delusional. His past record clearly indicates otherwise when it comes to ALL fossil fuels. What else do you think he's going to say in Ohio? As with most people, don't listen to what politicians say, watch what they do and have already done: Keystone got delayed, despite his being for it. And that is how fracking will be derailed if this ideologue gets reelected. This article gets it:

Why anyone in the oil/gas patch would vote for Obama is mystifying. The fracking is good for Ohio, whether you're a landowner or not. It means jobs, from lawyers to restaurant service, to car manufacturing and sales and more. To those that just have to vote for this guy because he's a democrat, I'm not asking you to violate your sense of tradition; however, you must realize Obama is not a democrat as many of us have known democrats to be. Obama does not represent your dad's democratic part. The only reason he rolled out Clinton to help campaign is to remind everyone what a halfway decent democrat president was like, but Clinton ain't running.
The world is on fire, literally: Obama's foreign policy strategy of appeasement has failed miserably. The US economy is expanding only so long as Ben Bernanke and the Federal Reserve continue to print money like there's no tomorrow. Sadly, by doing that there may be no tomorrow--not as we know it. Those of us that are parents are bequeathing over $16 trillion dollars in debt to our children, not to mention $50 trillion of unfunded liabilities because Medicare and Social Security is, or will be, BROKE. Yet this president hasn't really addressed any of it. IT'S TIME FOR A CHANGE. WAKE UP OHIO.

I agree. I live in Florida and our power company uses a combination of coal and natural gas to generate power. Just seeing what the president does and has done to the coal industry in OHIO, W. VIRGINIA, PENNSYLVANIA and other coal producing states is the complete opposite of what he is saying now. He is only for it it because it is time to vote again. His base will not let him give the go ahead or ask congress to allow it either. Down here it is drilling offshore that is somewhat being talked about. That will not happen either.

I agree. Obama is no friend of any fossil fuel. After election his EPA will savage fracking. Libs/greenies don't care what the economic impact is because they believe they are saving the planet. Sad!

In writing this post, the goal was to emphasize that the President came out with comments promoting natural gas. We are not promoting the President, simply noting that in Ohio, the President made these comments. I don't disagree with any of the comments above, many I agree with. However, when the President, as with any other prominent figure, comes out with supportive comments no matter their motive, we will note them. They could help non-supporters have a more open mind to shale development and the promise of natural gas. Thanks for comments and happy Wednesday!

To Anne Carto:Nobody with an IQ over 20 believes your post. I guess you are taken in by Obama. He did not use any of his influeence to try to get the Natural Gas bill passed. It failed in the Senate. Obama is wedded to wind and solar technology, and he has wasted billions of taxpayer dollars which have been diverted to Solyndra, and other political friends in wind and solar. His alleged support for natural gas is wind in itself, perhaps better described as hot air. I was fooled by Obama once. Tell me what you think after you go see the movie 2016, if you are open-minded enough to go see it.
