I'm aware of a few acquaintances who have gotten their checks through ALOV...One last name started with an 'H' and an 'S', so if it was alphabetical order, then that wouldn't make sense...

If you have heard of those who have gotten their check, please fill us in on the details of how.....Was it first class mail where you have to sign for it, or was it simply in the mailbox?   Any details would be appreciated...I know the people I know didn't own alot of acres, if that means anything..

Perhaps those details are out there, but I just haven't seen them...

Thanks Nash

As usual, Fang's red herring B.S.  distracts what was otherwise a useful discussion.  Don't take the bait anymore. I know I won't.   He's just here to stir up trouble.

All I can say is that I'm keeping a positive approach to this whole thing.  This is the best thing that has happened to this area in a long time and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that BP will follow through with their word.  I just wonder if anyone has received a title defect letter from them and how they are handling it.  I will patiently wait until October 1 with my fingers crossed the whole time.  Good luck to everyone and please keep us all posted with the news :)

I wasn't trying to start anything. Just my take on what I read in the lease. If Alov has a separate agreement with BP that would be great but I was unaware of this. If such an agreement does exist I would be curious to know what rules it sets for BP.

I am trying to stay positive in this whole process and I would be more then happy to be proved a pessimist on this matter.

VERY IMPORTANT:  ANYONE who has a mortgage will FIRST get a 'defect notice', BEFORE YOU GET YOUR CHECK/MONEY...Just got the 'defect notice'...Spoke to a relative who is very familiar in finance....The phrase 'title defect' simply means banks MUST give permission on any change to the mortgage/property.....The banks will simply give permission that it is ok....The word 'DEFEFT' is a technical term, and NOT that you have done anything wrong.....You get a couple different documents, which will need to be taken to your mortgage people, and they will confirm it is ok to do this(they won't refuse you)........If you have NO mortgage left, you would just get the check.....As far as this 'title defect notice',  there is no reason to panic....You will still be able to get your money...

We have a mortgage and received our check yesterday - no title defect, just the check.

Got ours on Wednesday also.

We need some help in complying with Title Defects.  Has anyone been through this already?

When did you get the defect letter and what was it for?

I got a title defect letter the last day (Oct.1) concerning an old judgment lien that had been on my property since 2001 for $1600.  I didn't know anything about it so I contacted the person who had done it.  It was a survey co. that had done a line on my property back in 1998 when I got divorced and said they never got paid.  I have spent 3 weeks trying to get this guy to give me the paperwork so I can get the lien lifted at the courthouse and all he has done is jerk me around.  It's very frustrating because I explained the situation to him and now it's like he's jerking me around...won't give me the time of day to even address this problem.  All I want to do is pay the guy so we can get this finished and he is giving me the 3rd degree.  I did find out he signed with Chesapeake in Columbiana co. for $4500/acre and 20% royalites.  It's very frustrating.  I called BP to explain the situation and of course haven't heard back from them yet, either.  Some days I wish I had never signed on the dotted line.

I was thrown out of this forum a few months ago because I dared to tell fang in some rather colorful words that I thought he was the most negative, buzz killing individual that I have seen in a long time.  I don’t know what his agenda is, but I know he has one and it is not to the benefit of this forum.  As of today I don’t care what he has to say anymore because the ice cream truck came to West Farmington today.  I had a defect letter sent to me September 27.  I cured the defect and got my check today.  So to all of you people still waiting, keep the faith, BP is paying and paying BIG.  So to fang, and I mean this sincerely, UP YOUR’S.  If this gets me thrown out again, I will apologize in advance.
