The point is that it is obscene that Ohio, and Pa are taking any more money from this (shale boom)and redistributing it. As a member of ALOV pointed out on the news yesterday the state is going to get a lot of income tax money from this as well as jobs and cheaper energy prices across the board. It makes me sick that these people think that it is business as usual to jump on someones investment that is finally paying off and take their money and give it to people across the state!

The Tea Party is going to file a discrimination suit against the democrats, demand affirmative action, demand stimulus money to buy votes, be allowed to run their own polling stations,  to try and get this country back upon a equilibrium.

But Frank the worst tax upon landowners was the Windfall Profits tax upon the land owners under the Democrat Carter years. I recall very clearly an aid for then Democrat US Senator John Glenn before a hostile crowd of landowner  (royalty holders) stated "John Glenn didn't know what he was voting on"

So you are defending the latest tax based on the fact there are other taxes? Hello? . Like I said OBSCENE! Kasich is a socialist and that is all there is to it!

I think that's the point, Jesse.

This is so wrong on so many levels.  The severance tax, which every other state with oil and gas production has, won't be anywhere near 40%, it won't even be double digits.  And most leases provide that the oil and gas company pays that, and the landowner royalty is not affected.

Why shouldn't people in the entire state benefit from the new boom?  Just because they didn't have the dumb luck to own property in an area where a commodity was discovered?

I don't doubt Buckeye Mineral wants the state to reduce the tax on gasoline instead of a severance tax, that means Buckeye won't have to pay ANY tax.  Yeah, that's a GREAT idea!

I'm surprised that this time, you think the oil and gas companies are looking out for your best interests.

Dumb luck! You Anastasia do not realize that land was an investment that I made and lived in a crappy house to pay for it thinking that it would pay off. You and your welfare friends do not deserve a dime!

I agree with Frank!  How dare you!  We have given up many things to hold on to our land and put up with difficult living conditions but never giving up or taking a single hand out. Anastasia Dumb Luck, you should be ashamed of your self...hard work and living very modestly is how most of the land owners have held on to their land through the years.  If anything it is a God sent blessing to the hard working farmers and folks in these areas.

The 40% is fed, state and local! Bloodsucking socialists like Kasich need to be impeached!!!!!!

Anastasia, you ask why the entire state shouldn't benefit from the new oil and gas boom?  Simple answer, they have no skin in the game.  They did not invest their money in anything or take any risk.  They should not benefit one bit from other people's forsight, and take money out of other people's pockets that did take a risk and invest.  Besides everyone in Ohio is going to benefit from the increase in state taxes from this boom anyway, how much is enough for you and the rest of the takers?????

There is a catch-all for them. It is called Welfare and food stamps. This is paid for by the taxes landowners are going to or have paid on the income of their lease bonuses. We don't need to futher tax the industry and consequently the landowners. Coal miners can work in the newly created gas industry. There are a lot of jobs available. Welders, operators, etc. I believe they would want to have a job instead of a handout! Welfare and food stamps are a safety net to a job.

Just a second ago you said that I and my welfare friends don't deserve a dime.  Which is it?  I'm sure you wouldn't be so quick to condemn the idea of sharing the wealth if your property was in western Ohio.   That socialist wealth distribution pays for schools and roads across the state.  It is luck, pure luck that the real estate you happen to own is sitting atop something somebody else wants.  For that, you should be humble, grateful and a little more compassionate towards those that are not so lucky.
