We've all read about and heard some of the negatives of Chesapeake on this site but they seem to be doing lots of good things in Carroll county:
"....Although tight-lipped with its comments to the media, Chesapeake has played the role of a good corporate citizen. It has agreed to maintain a couple hundred county and township roads used to access wells. It donated a used Chevrolet Tahoe to the county sheriff and paid $200,000 to digitize records for the genealogical society. Chesapeake also hosted a community picnic last summer, bought a champion steer and hog at the county fair and partnered with local nuns to enhance mental-health, adoption and foster-care services."

Yes, but it does makes sense to make a partial evaluation of them based upon their performance in Carroll, since its in the middle of their Utica campaign.
You must not know alot of the underhanded things they do. Trust me ive seen alot of lies
Thanks Joseph-Ohio, appreciate the gesture and realize that we're all aware of their darker side. Just trying to draw out a little of the good Yes, maybe its the silver lining I always look for. :) Thanks!
yup, everybody loves to hate chk, and nobody appreciates when they give back a little to the communities that they operate in. it's like so what? they have billions...
i got news for ya, most other companies dont do squat for the communities they're in. take swn. nothing...and if they have a landowner info meeting, which is rare, there's not even coffee or nuthin'. chk usually has refreshments and even snacks...and hats! they got the best camo hats!
some other companies do some stuff too. chief for instance set up a fund here in bradco for folks who couldnt afford their heating fuel one winter, and they bought some computers for a school.
hey...speaking of hats, i used to have fun with those hats when leasing was really hot here. i'd get one every time i could, i had hats from all of the companies...seriously! so anyway, whenever a landman came out to the house, i'd make sure i had a competitors' hat on. and i'd say, "yeah, he just left half an hour ago, wadda you got to offer?". that was fun.
and after a while you'd get to know which companies they disliked the most, and that'd make it even more fun. and when you're wearing somebody elses hat, guess what...they give you more of their hats. i've got drawers full of 'em now...and coffee cups, and beer can insulators and frisbees and tote bags and...well, you get the picture.
leasing is fun, if you treat it like it's business. ya dont ned to get emotional, and always pay attention to the subtleties too.
oh, and if chk has all of the leases around you and you're thinking, "i'll lease with anyone but them..."...bad move. i know folks who signed for less to avoid chk only to end up with them in the end anyway.

i didnt have a lawyer.
i thought that timing would be the single biggest factor in getting the best lease possible. i think that things have worked out very well, but that's just me.
and yes, i do think that depending on the circumstances, you may stand a chance of recovering some of those deductions, but unless someone takes the bull by the horns and challenges chk, nothing is gonna change.

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
