I run the Southern Athens County Landowners Assoc. If you have land with mineral rights in Athens Co. Please contact me.

Can you say what kind of offers people are receiving to lease there minerals?

My group has not received any offers. as of yet.

I saw this article. We are getting close...just a matter of time, in my opinion.

The specifics of this well bode well for Athens County. This article does not share the specifics, unfortunately.

Follow the money, where they invest, they are backed with much, much more research.

I agree with your comment about lack of specifics" 57' of rock in a near vertical well is far different than 57' in a higher angle well; it's a simple trigonometry calculation.

Hey Brian -

I think I read a post by you a while back that said something along the lines of 50ft thickness probably being enough for a horizontal run.

According to the Wunderlich report, the Point Pleasant was at 57 feet in thickness with the Utica at 144 feet in thickness at the JB Hayes well site.

Is it fair that this is indeed thick enough for a horizontal well and that it is reasonable to couple the two formations into a total 'drillable' thickness for the two formations at that location to be 201 feet?

Thanks -

Markus -

When horizontal drilling became more popular  in the U.S. in the mid '90's, operators in Central Texas were horizontally drilling into a 10-20 ft. thick oil rich Austin Chalk formation. Their biggest challenge was geo steering and keeping the bit in the formation. So the 201 ft. thickness in the two zones would likely be drillable; geosteering and keeping the hole stable enough to run a production liner would be my two principle concerns.
