ON a visit to the courthouse today it was interesting to find that ONLY Chesapeake well royalty owners are subject to the tax statement that came last week with property taxes!  The Auditor's office says that REX has not reported their production reports to the courthouse so those land owners have not yet been taxed!!!!  HOW can this be ????  The taxes are 2 years behind so this year's statement is for 2012 production!  Seems to me if some landowners pay we should ALL be paying!!!!

This was to go on the Carroll County, Ohio site.  I'm not certain about any other counties!  How can you be taxed when not in a unit????

Did you speak with Mr. Van Horne (The auditor?)

Also, look at the Recorder's dept. for info.

Both in the CC Courthouse on the square. Worth a physical visit IMHO.

Yes we did speak with Leroy Van Horne.  He really didn't know much about this!!!!  We showed him the production figures for REX are on the ODNR site.  He said he would look into that but he has NOT called to tell us anything.  WE did make a courthouse visit and were there nearly 3 hours with very few answers.  If indeed we must pay this figure for the 4 days of production in 2012 there is money on the table that others are not contributing to the county from non Chesapeake wells.  Again, we are in a unit and I agree we SHOULD contribute to the county but everyone in a producing well unit should, without the courthouse excuse that REX has not given them numbers and they don't know know how to get them!!!

I'm new to this site (for commenting). I guess if you "friend me" or whatever the procedure is here, we can speak personally. I'm very curious as to the exact nature of your issue.

It sounds like all royalties owners will be interested in this.

I inquired at the courthouse as well,  and was informed that all operators in the county are required to submit a form "6" annually listing any wells in production.  In addition was told that auditors office sent out 23 million in tax slips to residents and businesses in the county.  When asked why Chesapeake reported and R.E. did not, the reply was that Chesapeake fulfilled their obligation to report, the latter did not.  It was also mentioned that any party receiving royalties in the county from R.E. would be assessed this tax starting with date of first production and including fines for late payment  when NOT  if it gets reported.  In my estimation some of those wells have been producing for 2 maybe 3 years now.  I sure wouldn't want that little bundle of joy coming to my mail box unexpectedly.

CARROLL COUNTY AUDITORS OFFICE IS STILL IN 1950

I think you may be right!!!!

The lady in the office kept saying Carroll County is an example for the state and they are waiting to see how things go here!!!!   Isn't that reassuring!!!!!   No call to date from the Auditor's office and today makes it one week!!!!!

their probably busy checking on the price of corn and pork belly

Unbelievable Greed!
