Those daring young men in their drilling machines will soon have good reason to "drill baby drill" if this trend continues. This may be the result of this continued cold spell. In any case it is good for investors and land owners alike! Too early to pop the corks?

Exactly.

No one should wish hardship on anyone else with these cold, life-threatening temperatures just to see the price of nat gas increase.

It's amazing how the thought of getting something you don't have yet, brings out the best in some.  Not that long ago some of our brothers pulled the lever on the gas chambers to get ahead.  A few folks freeze to death but, Hey a few more coins jingl'in in the pocket.

Natural gas at $5.20

First: One of my favorite films growing up was "Those Daring Young Men In Their Flying Machines" so I enjoyed your reference to it.

Yes, natural gas prices are going up, and will continue to go up. The rise may be slow but it will be constant. Of course there will be dips but the general trend will be up.

This will be good for your area. Rising prices plus installation of infrastructure will mean continued development (maybe even increased development.

$5.18  +8.72% above on the Natural Gas Price

What goes up must come down at least usually. Some things go out into deep space or disintegrate altogether. I sincerely believe that this area, Western Pennsylvania, Eastern Ohio, and Northwest West Virginia will be drilled like a Marine Corp recruit in training. Even NewYork will get poked when it finally gets over its Trypophobia (fear of holes and cracks). The only thing holding us back right now is infrastructure and that will be changing. New pipelines will be coming to a neighborhood near you soon. Yes, those daring young men will be at it in full force as soon as the birds start to chirp and the manure spreaders are out in full force emptying out the barns. I for one welcome this newfound gusher of gas, oil, and money!

Up nearly 10% on one hand I want it to rise, on the other everyone needs to keep warm.

I wonder why the main stream media outlets aren't reporting on the Propane shortages with folks going cold. I'am sure the anti drilling crowed will use that as an example as to why we desperately need to invest in renewable energy sources. We all know they will never admit fault period,

Here's an interesting take on the propane shortage.  Is NY Governor Cuomo part of the reason for the shortage?

Since the gas prices are going up, up, up, why hasn't the royalties?  How soon can one expect to see an increase in royalties?

Your gas could be hedged at a set price.

Royalties are usually paid with a three or four month delay.  You may see a jump in royalties then. It does depend on how much production is hedged as Bill Barnaby stated.  But they also may have opened up the valves to boost production due to increased demand.

Good luck!
