Every time you hear an anti shale representative ask for a moratorium or a review to make sure it's safe, just think of New York State and the Keystone Pipeline. Once they get their way and have the moratorium in place it will become permanent.

The Keystone Pipeline has been under review since 2007 ( and the review has actually been completed twice). This is just ridiculous. Our nation completely outfitted the army, navy, air force, marines etc and won WWII in less than five years.

President Obama knows the extreme environmental left will never approve of the pipeline. He will never cross them because they are big donors to the President and the Democrat Party, and he needs them for the political campaign of 2014.

So anytime you hear these extremists talk about safety and protecting the environment it is just a ruse. They are not sincere.

i watched 5 or 6 democrat candidates for pa. governor on c-span yesterday and all they talked about was how to get money, where to get money, how to tax the Marcellus. get rid of the democrats in 2014.

Yes, but I thought that the issue with the Keystone pipeline wasn't because of Democratic/ Obama resistance but more because the landowners/ ranchers in so-called red states such as Kansas, Nebraska, and even Oklahoma were against it because of its threat to their ranches and environment. As I understand it, they are taking the NIMBY approach to the issue.  I think that what you are really seeing is a local hard core resistance in those states using the environmentalist line as cover for their own NIMBY position.

Markus,

That was misinformation put out by the Obama administration, in fact the U.S. portion of the pipeline is being constructed as we speak.

Transcanada's record isn't exactly the best..

Don't shoot the messenger.

The big question is what do you think this pipeline is really going to do for the USA? I'm not sure that I see the benefit in this one. Yes, it creates some short term jobs, the amount is questionable, but after that? I am not sure, and at the risk of the environment. Personally, I think pipelines are probably the safest form of transport. But why do we want to bring Canada's dirty oil down here? When we have our own oil? To me that doesn't make sense. In the summer, the price of gas goes up, but it isn't because we have a lack of oil, it is because our refineries shut down. That always confuses me.. Someone please explain that to me. Now they are trying to lift the ban on oil exports.. Why would you lift the ban if you didn't have enough? http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2014/01/08/u-s-oil-.... Unless, you are a big oil company that stands to make a bunch more money through the export of crude. The problem doesn't seem to be the lack of oil but the refineries that process the oil. I am not sure that opening opening up the market globally is the best either, as the spread between Brent and WTI I would think would have to diminish. Raising prices. If that is the case I speculate that gas prices will increase, as it is always the little guy that gets the shaft. Not the big corporations.. I speculate the same thing will happen if the start exporting natural gas as well. It seems like a great idea, natural gas stabilizing at a global price. Which is great if you are selling natural gas, right up until you get your heating bill. Then all of a sudden that will be the presidents fault too.

Maybe someone can make sense of this for me..

it's the president and his  party that have killed the construction of refineries.none since 1977.  it is the president  and his party who have killed coal. it is the president and his party who ignore the law in the united states.  refineries, oil companies, coal companies and companies in general employ americans. the democrats are waging a war on companies, demonizing them. and destroying the country in the process of establishing their progressive holocaust.

Peacer,

Your post is based upon a false premise - that oil from Canada will replace oil produced in this country. That is false.

The oil from Canadian "tar sands" (bitumen) is different from most of the oil produced in the U.S. It is primarily used in construction (roofing, paving). If it replaces anything it replaces this type of product from the middle east, not American produced oil.

As for the report you post, all anyone has to know about it is the group that produced it, Public Citizen. This is are virulently anti fossil fuel, and pro renewable  energy sources. Enough said.

Not true.  From the Keystone XL website:

It is a supply line (from the oil sands) to U.S. Gulf Coast refineries — which have signed up to 20-year binding commercial contracts to receive oil through Keystone XL. This much-needed oil will allow refineries to create products that we all rely on every day — gasoline for our vehicles, aviation fuels, and diesel fuels to help transport goods throughout the continent. - See more at: http://keystone-xl.com/facts/myths-facts/#sthash.xNoJwEHs.dpuf

Peacer,

You are a typical environmental activist, you misuse facts to meet your need. Although the Keystone pipeline system does deliver syncrude to gulf coast refineries, the 4th extension of the system, the"XL" addition, is meant to transport bitumen from the "tar (oil) sands of Alberta Canada. The system also carries domestic dude from states such as North Dakota.

Your claim is still false, misrepresenting information doesn't make it anymore true.

How is it not true?  You said it's used to make asphalt.  While it may be, that's not the primary end result.  This is directly from the TransCanada website.

With the increase in supply of asphalt the cost to build our roads will be less. Build thatpipeline now.
Wow!
Obama was able to stop refinery production when he was 16 years old!
So how come he has been unable to stop the huge natural gas development of the past 6 years?
