So I have a lot of activity in my area {Pulaski Pa} and to see if I might possibly be in a well unit I purchased well plat maps off a website. (not sure if I am allowed to mention site name?} Anyway, I look at the map and its a little confusing. It clearly shows direction of well legs, marked top hole and bottom hole, two of the legs run across our property, the others are pretty close...my question is the rectangle that is highlighted around the acreage. Is that the unit? Because if it is, then we are in every unit, even if the leg doesn't run across our property? Right or wrong? Thanks for the help.

In Ohio the permit application usually includes a plat showing the land owners in a unit. This information is available to the public (free).
Not sure if it is the same in PA. Hopefully someone who knows will read this thread or you can call the DEP office in Meadville.
Could you post your map ? Might make it easier for people to answer your questions.
Thanks Barry, not sure how to post the map? I tried to find the maps for free with no luck. Our property is directly in the middle of the rectangle boundary. I just didn't know if the well leg had to run across your property. Like I said, I hope Dexter is right.
Is this map a "Declaration of Pooled Unit" and was it filed at the courthouse by the operator?
It is a well location Plat map and well plans map and it has a DEP stamp on it. It is filed by the operator Hilcorp.
It might take a long time til your notified if your in a unit. It will be recorded at the courthouse too with the plat map outlined and everyone's names, % of interest, and how many acres are included in the unit.

Yes. Sorry to inform you that you paid (I hope not very much) for information that companies are required to give to the Commonwealth and that, in turn, the Commonwealth is to make available to its citizens at no cost (aside from the price per page to print out a document).

in ohio the plat can show the drilling unit..............but many times the production unit is different......production units are not as easy to find...........plat can show all legs in a single drilling unit, but many times production units are on leg at a time.
The permit application in Ohio only shows the drilling unit for a specific well NOT the production unit which is filed at recorders office and shows who will be paid from what wells. We are in a unit of 640 acres which could potentially have three wells 10-H, 8-H and 6H but only 10-H has been drilled and there is no permit application on file at ODNR for 8 or 6 yet. So while the company had a production unit on paper they have not filed for some of the permits yet. The down side of a bigger unit is for us is that we live in the drilling unit for 10H but we are sharing money with those living in the drilling units of 8H and 6H and they may never be drilled. So we will never get our share of their money. There is also a north 640 acre unit that has one well drilled and it so far has worse production than ours so grateful we are not in a 1280 acre unit sharing with all those folk too who have worse production than us. Totally disagree with the statement the "bigger the pie the better" NOT ALWAYS. If the flies crap all over one half ... well I don't want a piece. We have a well near us that one unit is oil and pays great ... other is side is dry and pays less. They are two separate 640 acre units and oil side is happy it's not 1280 while gas side wishes it was.
The unit acre drawing submitted to ODNR with the permit is strictly a survey of the drilling unit and is for the purpose of showing ODNR that A) the set back requirements for the well have been satisfied and B) the land has been leased. Those are the names you see on that drawing. It has nothing to do with the Production Unit. That is a Declaration of Pooled Unit and is recorded at the recorders office and also if you are in a unit you should receive a copy. I believe these are also referred to as division orders but not sure about that. And if you don't receive a copy from driller you can go get a copy at recorders office. Also you do not have to purchase this but may have to pay for the copies. They have gone up some but were $0.50 cents for computer pages and $1.00 if copies from lease books if you wanted to see older lease info. Also if your county has info online you may be able to print from home on your own printer.
