I attended the PSU seminar at Wheeling Island last night regarding royalties. One of the presenters mentioned that he subscribes to a service that lists the price paid to gas companies at gathering points for the gas they retrieve from land owners.

Does anyone know what this service is called or how one would find out the price paid at these gathering points in Pa for natural gas?

Thank you

RE: "One of the presenters mentioned that he subscribes to a service that lists the price paid to gas companies at gathering points for the gas they retrieve from land owners."

I know of no such subscription service; but, that does not mean that one does not exist.

Operators "sell" the natural gas they produce by a number of means:
Long term contracts,
Hedging (essentially short and medium term contracts,
and the Spot Market.

One can parse through the quarterly reports, annual reports, press releases and reports to SEC that individual companies provide and gain some company specific information. It would seem quite logical that some entity will collect and collate such publicly available information and sell reports by subscription.

Operators only contract to sell an amount of Natural Gas that they are confident that they will be able to produce ... otherwise, if they run short, they run the risk of having to purchase on the volatile Spot Market.

So, typically Operators a portion of their Natural Gas on the Spot Market.
For the Spot Market, there is a 'free' website that lists the ICE Day Ahead Natural Gas Price Report: http://www.naturalgasintel.com/ICE

This site lists the Spot prices at various hubs (FOR NEXT DAY DELIVERY).
Listed is the daily high price realized, the low price ... and the daily average.

Natural Gas Intelligence (who provide the free daily report) offer various reports via subscription; but these are not cheap.
