I have heard talk of a new gas well being drilled in Westfield TWP. Anyone have any information on it?

A few weeks after  I made this posting we received a phone call  asking to test our water supply at no charge to us. The person calling gave me much information as to where the well is to be located. All residents on our road are also having their water tested. Several markings have been painted on the road surface. It was said that the drilling company was going to upgrade the road surface in the near future. Well we will see what takes place.  Bill L.

Bill,is the gas company Travis Peak ?

To Paleface,  Yes, that is the name I hear being batted around.  I punched Travis Peake up out of curiosity. Seems  to be a fairly new company made up of experienced oil and gas men from other outfits....if I read it correctly. Bill L

I believe Travis Peak Resources is not really a E&P company rather they are looking to flip to their leases to a E&P. They have not applied for any permits in Tioga Co. Swepi has a new permit for Osceola Twp, nothing new Westfield Twp.

What do you mean by E&P company?

And by the way. I found out the location of the drilling site this morning.

Are you saying that drilling site rumor is only a  ploy to encourage land owner hold outs to lease ?

Bill,

Pa DEP and Marcellusgas.org show no wells permitted in Westfield Township or Borough.  Nearby Osceola Township has a lot of vertical and some horizontal wells to the Marcellus and the Synnestvedt well to the Utica.

Perhaps something is in the works that has not shown up on PA DEP.

Travis Peake is not listed on the PA DEP's (extensive) operators list.  All the drilling activity that I see in Tioga was East and now SWEPI (Shell).  My guess would be that Travis Peake is gathering leases to sell to SWEPI - but I don't know that.

SWEPI's big Utica wells that are in production are all in the North West corner of the County.

Bill are you in or near a storage field ?

The rumor is that Travis Peak was the high bidder for the Utica rights under the Sabinsville gas storage field, so being near (or inside) the storage field shouldn't be a problem for them. I guess my question is whether the proposed test well is in the southeastern portion of the township (so under storage) or elsewhere. If it is under storage, those landowners may end up with some completely unexpected royalty income one day.

Good morning Jack. Yes! A couple years ago I found a map that shows where the storage field was located. Using an overlay I discovered that the edge of their storage area is within a stone's throw from where I live. At that time Dominion claimed their storage extended to the center of the earth. And I guess there was much discussion about the depth of this storage area. So from what you posted I presume that this issue has been settled.

I did read somewhere that Dominion refused to allow drillers to drill through their storage area. If that was correct then the storage area must have not extended as deeply as they claimed it did.

There never was any real issue about Dominion's legal rights - their old leases at Sabinsville cover everything to the center of the earth regardless of what depths they're actually using for gas storage. So they've always had the right to assign the Utica rights under terms that protect their shallower gas storage operations in the Oriskany. Nobody can get in there without their permission, of course, but they have all the rights needed to do both and can sell the deeper rights at will. As I understand it they've now offered the Utica rights to the Meeker and Tioga storage fields as well, and we should hear who wins the bid there in a few months. Landowners will get whatever royalty was reserved in their original lease, as required, and Dominion will undoubtedly be keeping an additional overriding royalty on everything.

This morning a couple of folks came to test the water. But due to all the rain and wet ground they decided to wait until the ground surface water was gone. They had a map that was showing where the well was supposed to be drilled. I am very familiar with the location as I spent many hours exploring and working in that area in my younger days. On the map a large circle was drawn that was probably a couple of miles in diameter. The well site was in the center of this circle. I would guess that perhaps 25 acres of my property was enclosed within this circle.

I have property on Brace Hollow Road. Westfield. Two weeks ago, Travis Peake came in with equipment on my property to dig test holes to check soil conditions for pad location. Was also contacted by company doing baseline water testing for this well. Signed 5 year lease for $2,000 per acre in February.
