Hadn't heard from anyone lately about a parcel where a well exists from over 87 years ago. Although we were just made aware of this 3 years ago, after I had contacted the energy company who it is held by, after I had gotten my grandfathers death certificate, after they established I am an rightful heir to this well, they acted like they were wondering if I was calling to see if we were due royalties. I was flabergasted! Really, do they not keep records or documents or deeds.? Do they think we will just forget about it and not pursue it? Either they are playing like they don't know or they are really that unorganized. Just looking for some opinions.

What state? I think many leases have language about the lessor's needing to notify the lessee (company) when a change in ownership is made, like a sale or inheritance. And they may not have good records if the lease has been assigned (sold) a lot.
There may be differences in each state. I am familiar with WV.
And you might be right that they are disorganized. I have seen a lot of that, or read about it!

This is in the state of Pennsylvania, southwestern Pa. Greene County near the West Virginia border.

Nope its a company local to Pa. Startsnwith a C.

The place where the Penguins play in Pittsburgh is named after this company.

Most everything that goes on in the Oil & Gas business can be explained easily if you realize you are dealing with liars and thieves. Having no Royalty Owner to pay is a good deal, so why look for them.

It's been done this way for over 100 years.

Even Aubrey was upset when he was indicted, since he said no one else in O&G had been indicted for Anti Trust for over 110 years. Auction Bid Rigging is common place according to articles that have appeared here since his demise, but no one cared if the laws were being followed, since this is O&G.

Yes the most I get as an explanation is that two anonymous men get a royalty check for $4 each month. And this is holding production? Dont think so.

Do you have a copy of the lease?

I have a copy of the deed. According to them we only get royalties when they drill for the Marcellus, apparently that well isnt leased for that. I had a lawyer doing an abstract for me on the parcel to make sure. He decided to start his own practice and wont be doing oil or gas lease, so we k8nd of need to find someone who can finish the abstract for us,

I believe they are supposed to hold the money in escrow when they do not know who owns the oil and gas interest.  If I am correct in thinking that, then no royalty owner to pay is not really a good deal... it's all the same.  If you are owed money, I think it should be in escrow for you.  Whether they are going to pay you a fair royalty or not is a whole other question for sure.

They know all the ins and outs. The one I like the most is our computers only can show a running total and we cannot access previous amounts. They still must be using floppy discs. I myself just started watching reruns of the Dallas t.v. show to see how they operate.
